Anyone need a Carfax check?

[I'm posting this in several forums so that hopefully everyone that needs to will see it.]

Hey Everyone--

I currently have a month of unlimited Carfax reports, but it runs out in a couple of days. Anybody need a report run? If so, just click on my username and send me an email with your VIN. I'll run the report and email it back to you. Crap! I just looked and it runs out tomorrow, 4/2. So, get 'em to me quick!

You know, this has been bothering me for a while and I'm not sure I've seen a post about it, but. . .

Isn't CarFax providing a service for a fee? Is there anything in the service agreement that permits the "sharing" of this single-user service?

Isn't offering up the ability to look up VINs through your single-user contract tantamount to piracy?

Don't the poor folks at CarFax deserve to make a living by actually selling the service to those who need it? It's not like they are charging an arm and a leg. What is it, $40 for a month? That seems trivial if you're out buying a car priced in the thousands to tens of thousands. . .

Maybe it's just me though.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, of course.

They've already collected their money from most of us; after your one month sign up, you can only buy the yearly subscription for several hundred bucks unless you use a new name and credit card. You can get the same info for free from your insurance company and the state (FL reg info is $1.00)
