View Full Version : How to clean Plenum ?
I need to clean my plenum before putting it back on, it is pretty dirty inside, How has everyone cleaned theirs ? I was thinking about bringing it to a machine shop and have it hot tanked is this a good idea, or will it ruin the finish or warp the plenum ? The small passages (egr ?) are also pretty carboned up what is the best way to clean them out ?
Thanks for the help.
The plenum is aluminum, while the vavle covers are magnesium. A reputable machine shop will know how to clean aluminum. The aftermarket (Mid America Motorworks (http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.956), Paragon (http://corvette-paragon.com/catalog/Product.aspx?id=AC5D66CF-C4A4-4848-810B-E4D6C121DF4B) and others) sells paint similar to the paint used at the factory.
Honestly I just cleaned mine today!
All I used was a GOOD carb cleaner, and put a rag through it a few times.
(Mine was gross trust me)
I kind of filled the rear of the plenum covered the holes with my hands and shook the living day lights out of it then rinsed.
A few times and you can shave in it!
Thanks, I think I will give the carb cleaner a try.
