Default C2 Convertible Top Pops open

Is their anyway to adjust a convertible top? My buddy's 64 has a rear latch that pops loose and when it does it scares the crap out of you! It sounds like a gun being fired. Of course once the rear lets go the front one pops loose on the next bump. I've heard this is a common problem. Does anyone have any advice?

Make sure the rear latch pins are correctly centered in the hole in the receiver assembly when latching the bow down, and the receiver mechanism is properly lubricated and moves freely so it catches the pin securely. The top skin may simply be installed stretched too tight; they weren't tight and wrinkle-free when they left St. Louis, but many trim shops install replacement tops too tight so they don't get customer complaints about "wrinkles", which leads to latching and retention problems.

NO they dont have to pop open

Simple mecanics here. What is the condtion of the serations on the rear male latch going into the femaile latch?

In the female recepticale how is the spring,is the little peice that holds the male peies twisted? because some repaiered it with a nut and bolt.(I had a freind who was having this problem he was at wits end over it and it.I spent about 45 minutes with the car and readjused and re aligned some things And now his top is safe and secure.

I would start with the rear deck lid and center it up.then center up the top, then center up the front latches (rest them in the holes with no tention) then center up the rear locks.I am suprised at how many minor adjustment go un touched causing proplems like this.

But as john has said some time A top is too tight

Mine pops open in this way all the time. As far as I can tell the mechanism is fine; either the top was installed too tight, or it has shrunk over time.

The workaround for me is to never drive with the top up, but that may not work for you if you live in a rainy area. :-)

Andy will it hold with only 1 click pushed into the rear latches?

I guess its too tight.Mine with the front latch caught(not locked down) will push all the way to the bottom in the rear then I snap the front and its wrinkel free.
