Default C4 Windshield Trim

Is it typical to require the 3 metal trim pieces across the top and sides of the windshield to be replaced when the windshield is replaced? My Corvette Parts strore told me they usually need replacing as they typically get damaged being removed as they are stuck to the adhesive/sealant. When I dropped my 87 Convertible off at the Auto Glass shop today they had preordered the weather strip but that the Chevrolet dealer also sent the 3 trim pieces. But the Auto glass shop returned the trim to the dealer because they said they were not needed. Then later in the day the auto glass shop calls and said the trim was stuck and could not be removed without damage to them. I understand these 3 trim pieces total about $500. For those of you that have had your C4 windshields replaced, did it also require replacing the metal trim? I am a bit confused as to who was originally correct.

I'm sure that on my '87 coupe when I replaced the windshield, they did not replace the trim pieces.

I do think you are getting ripped for 500 bucks for those pieces. If I remember correctly, I think those pieces are screwed to the car under the weather-striping. I may be wrong, it’s been a while since I had those pieces off. Try another glass place, or order those pieces (if needed) online yourself.

I had my windshield changed in my driveway covered by insurance. Serviceman came to the house and did it alone in ab out 1-1/2 hours.

He did not have to replace the trim pieces with new one.

I had been told that they are destroyed in the removal, but AutoGlass Plus knows how to take them off and replace them with nary a scratch.

Just my experience.

BTW, the new windshield and installation labor cost me ziltch. Just had to sign a piece of paper. Guess I was in good hands with ALLSTATE.
