View Full Version : Who here is getting a C6?

I 'm talking about the people who are seriously thinking about getting one or have already preordered.

I added a 5th option for people like me who just can't afford it, but will be at the dealership ASAP checking one out!

Let me know if I forgot an option.

HOTMOTORSPORTS

I voted seriously thinking about it only because I don't know what the dealers will do and add to MSRP. I won't do over and will try (I said try) to wait until the dust settles a few months after availability.

I'm hoping the C-6 will bring the prices of the C-5's down so I can afford one, I need a good economy car. What I would save on gas might even make the payments:L

I'm with HOTMOTORSPORT, depending on mark up. If it's around the same then I'm cool and it'll be in my drive way, but if the mark up is outragous then I'll be waiting.

:( I got burned with the first year model... 01 Z06... and I was "lucky" not to get an "oil burner"!

The 02 bumped hp. from 385 to 405, dropped the "pup-cats" and added the "HUD".

;) I'm gonna try to wait until the 2nd year of the new C6 Z06 (who am I kidding?)... if I can "hold out" ROFL.

bossvette,

That's what I'm hoping for. I would like something like a 02 or 03 Z06.

Waiting to see what the vert looks like. Looking to replace my C4. :)

Though the new Z06 may be hard to resist. Oh, the choices we must make in our life. ;)

I am with Bossvette!

I would love to get an '02, or '03 Z06. Maybe with the introduction of the C6, the prices for the later C5 Z06s will come down to easier reach for us working guys!

I slipped up abit and got my deposit in 6 months ago to one of the largest corvette dealers in the country, wound up #20 on the list, but am promised a car in the first 2 weeks of production...

What I did not screw up was getting my deposit in on the 06 Z06... I am getting number 1 and number 2 !!!!!!!!

And for those concerned, I am paying MSRP and my deposit is fully refundable even up until the time the car gets to the dealership!!

I plan on keeping one and selling the other.. Am recieving a small discount, and I mean small, because I ordered 2... I think it will work out well because of getting the cars before alot of others.

I've promised myself a new Vette for my 50th birthday in 2006 - so probably a Z06. Though I love my C4, and will keep it regardless...

I am most definately getting a C6. I sold my C5 (see corvette ownership to the left) when I heard I was to be stationed in Korea with a follow on assignment to Italy (4 years total time). Didn't want to store the C5 and be making payments. SO I sold it (worst decision I ever made, broke my heart) but put all the $$$ into a fund that is doing rather well. I am set to now buy a C6 and plan on doing so when I leave Italy in about 6 months. Guess I'll order one with the options and colors that I want. It's a 100% definate that I'll buy one.

What's the best way to order and get it at MSRP???

I would go for the C6 if it wasn't for the taxes. When I purchased my C5 I paid $3,780 state sales tax, $1,080 fed luxury tax, and to the town I live $2,262 property tax paid the first year and $42 per thousand valuation each and every year after. Total for the first year, $7,122 in taxes. So if I got a C6 for 60k I would be looking at $4,200 sales tax and $2520 property tax for a total of $6,720 the first year. A least no luxury tax.
I just will not pay those kind of taxes again on a car and watch the moneys I pay in taxes get pizzed away. If I want to spice the C5 up a bit I will put the $$$ in mods not taxes. Too bad it has to be this way. The C6 looks beautiful.

B/Stock,

Too bad indeed. Hope your government is not __ing away all that money. I, personally, don't agree with how this government spends, I'd rather have less services--starting with traffic enforcement.

I am hoping to get a convertible one but there are many factors to consider in my case.First of all I will have to part with my 92,which won't be easy because I haven't been able to do it until now.Price will be a big factor also.Up here in Canada we pay 15% sales tax on a new vehicle and that is hard to swallow. If I were to buy a used one from a past owner I would pay only one tax...Last but not least it's the entire price of the Vette. If I were to purchase one in the very near futur I might have to finance it and I have never bought a car by making monthly installments.I don't know if I'm ready to worry about payments through the winter when my brand new shiny corvette is sleeping in a garage. It just sounds peculiar to me.I'm used to making monthly payments for my real estate, not my car!!....Maybe by summertime I'll get over this monthly thing and buy one :) I hope so anyway!!

After seeing how gm plays the upgrade game.I think it would be best to wait and see what all the new models plus zo6 will bring to the table. To be honest i think that since the c6 is so close to the c5 it maybe several years before we see all the realy good cards for the c6.

Not to mention that they're expecting a short run for the C6 right? I was thinking that enough C5 owners will want to unload their C5's to get the C6's so I could get a used C5 for a nice deal. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

That's one reason why I will never move back to R.I. I was born there, grew up there, and joined the Army to get as far away from there as possible.
I own two houses, one in Alabama, and another in TN, my Z06, a 2001 Town and country, and two S-10 Pickups.... my total taxes for everything is less than your town property tax paid the first year. I feel for ya.
Move South, sell your snow blower, buy a boat, and get a C-6 of your choosing. Oh yeah, did I mention that you can probably supersize your house with the prices down here.

Highly unlikely:( As we just bought our 2002 on Dec. 31, 2002 (and loving every minute with it since then!), we're not looking to get a C6, especially if it bears a close resemblance to the C5's!!;) We've been saying that we'll more than likely keep our Grand Sport and the '02 forever...but then we've been known to change our minds! :L

Do you pay any income tax in RI ? If so, maybe that's the difference in why you have so much "consumption" type-tax compared to the others.

My plan is to purchase a 2006 Z06. By that time my 01 vert should have just under 20K on the clock and still be a desirable car.

Oh, do we pay income taxes in RI. We have a state piggy back tax thats about 25% of our federal income tax. RI is one of the most highly taxed states in the nation.

I couldn't wait another 9 or 10 months, so I just bought a brand new 2003 C2 (Porsche Carrera that is).

Are you ready for this:

I've been letting my wife drive the Porsche for the last couple of weeks and she loves it. I then showed her a picture of the C6 this past weekend and asked if she wanted one and she said yes (she swolled the bait, hook, line and sinker).

Actually, I think she's really tired of the family trucksters she's been driving for the last ten years.

Holly cow, two kick a** sports cars in the family at once, this will be a dream come true.

I'm very content with my 81.I like the fact that I can make repairs myself rather than taking it to the dealer for every problem.
Anyway,Lori and I are planning on building a new home within the next 3-4 years. All our pennies are going into that plan.

I just bought a 2004 base coupe. The C6 is a gamble. How reliable will it be? Would like to wait and see if it will have any reliability/performance issues. Also great time to buy a C5 prices are discounted. I like the idea of owning the last year of c5 production. If I like the C6 I'll be ready to trade or sell my 04 when prices come down.

At the beginning l was a little taken back by the C6, but now l just love it.

The smart thing to do is to wait one year until the big block comes out and then go for it.

This will free up a lot of C5's and the price's will drop to the point where l will have no other choice but to step out and grab one.

The C4's will not be influenced by the C5''s and will hold there present value, thank the lord.

That will be many years from now unless something bad hits the USA again. Which in that case since I'm to old to join the military I will sell my Lexus and go out and buy C6 to show my support.

I don’t know if this has been asked before…Is it true there is going to be a simulcast of the presentation for the C-6 on the web on January 4ths (Detroit show?) The C-6 is not going to be available for the public until the fall?

I understand about the money thing, believe me I wasn't born with that perverbial silver spoon in my mouth either, but due to circumstances that, in this case, were really beyond my control, I bought the C6 in April and the car is such a pleasure to drive, I can't imagine anyone waiting for the C7 when you could be enjoying Corvette like nothing you ever imagined it could be, NOW! FYI, I've owned 10 before this one, about 1/2 new and 1/2 used.
Don't wait, beg, borrow, or steal the money, or how much are they getting for first born these days???? (just kidding)

Edmond,
I know you can't take someone else's money, that you can't print your own, and you certainly shouldn't have to roll over and die. Yes, the C6's are mega bucks to some(myself included), all I'm saying is that if there is ANY WAY you can borrow the money, short of selling your soul, then you should do it. The car is like no other Corvette I've ever owned, (11 in all), and its such a pleasure just to cruise in, let alone having fun with it. I certainly don't know yours or anybody else's financial situation, and I certainly don't mean to make light of yours in particular and I apologize if I came off that way. Last year, I certainly wasn't planning to buy a C6, that is until my life took an expected turn that changed my whole picture. I was perfectly happy with my 96 Collector Edition(17,000 miles) and was looking forward to driving it even more after I got back from Iraq. Thing is, sometimes our lives take an expected turn and at some point, everyone's does, is that should that happen to you or anyone for that matter, you should definitely look into the new C6. Period, end of story. Nothing personal.

I voted "happy with my C5." I purchased a 2004 and could have waited for the C6, but I wasn't very comfortable with a first-year model and I wasn't sure I'd like the headlights. Anyway, the more I see em the more I like em, especially the added HP. Maybe after my C5 comes off warranty, I'll consider a C6.

Ordered a machine silver/red interior conv. 10/29.

I ordered a machine silver on 9/27. Do you have a production date?

I was told at time of order that the dealer had an allocation and I could expect my car the first week of Nov. Last night (41/2 week later) the salesmanager told me he didn't have a production date yet, and I should expect my car at the end of Nov. When I said my salesman told me the beginning of November he said, well, your salesman was wrong. My salesman no longer works at this dealership.

Can you tell me what you were told for timing?

Are there any other members that can shed some light on this? I've never ordered a Vette before and don't know the usual procedure. Two months seems like a long time.

Thanks,
