1985 Red Coupe
Default Why didn't you warn me? - would I have listened?

I just got back from my first day to the track....OMG!!! It's like 112 Octane Crack!!!. I made 4 runs as test and tune. I really only went to get an idea of what my car would do before I started making mods to the engine and exhaust. I went with a local car club, and we all had a ball.

1985 all stock automatic tranny, on street tires ( still in need of some work, but...)

1st run:

ran a 15.164 with top speed of 89.6 - lost this one to a 02 Z06

2nd run: 15.384 with a top speed of 88.28 - lost this one to a HEAVILY modded 82 Rustang with NOS

3rd run I jumped the start

4th run: 15:241 with a top speed of 88.66 - lost this one to another Z06.

I was 0 for 4 by then end of the day, but still had a great time. I'll probably go back after a few mods, to see what improvement I can get. I'd like to get into the 14's with my first round of mods and little experience.

Shouldn't be hard to do. What tires are you running? Did you drop your tire pressure?

What you really should be worried about is the new addiction you don't realize you have yet I've only been once as well, wasn't even really thinking about any real mods, and was totally unaware of my "problem" until several thousand $'s were gone. And I haven't even gotten back to the track yet --- cause my cars not done

Oh ya, you wouldnt've listened, and you won't listen now

aoriii,

With a little more experience and some mods, I'm sure you'll get to your goals. Who knows, you may catch the fever and decide to really make some radical mods to the car!

Just curious, what were the Z06's running?

I'm sure my mods will get more aggressive as time goes by. I'm not sure where the line is drawn for 'lite mods' vs. 'OMG how much did you spend on that', but right now I'm planning on putting in a more aggressive cam (with new springs, etc), a prefab mod chip (probably get -=Jeff=- to make one for me later- after the cam and exhaust), free flow cats, and exhaust eliminators, hedman hedders, and a vortex cold air system. But all of that will take a good bit of time. I'll probably make some minor bolt on type changes before all that happens.

The Z06's were running 12.9's and topping out at about 112 mph.

Wow, sorry to say my 91 totally stock L98 auto w/2.59 gears ran a best of 13.8et 98mph in the 1/4. My 96 totally stock LT4 has ran a best of 12.9et 110mph in the 1/4. I had always thought any L98 would at least run high 14's. Maybe you need a tuneup or something.
