Default 84 C4 Auto Trans Shift Problems

I have an 84 with 65k on it that I purchased recently. Transmission shifting seems a bit eratic. When I am gently accelerating, it shifts into 3rd way to fast and a bit clunky. Now I know with the clutch-shift type torque convertors your not going to see that smooth of a shift, but this is pretty stiff. I just had it serviced by the dealer and had them check linkage/detent adjustments as well. Not sure what kind of modulator set up is on this trans. Any ideas?

Thanks
Jeff

I am assuming your complaint is of harsh shifting.. and not that the trans is slipping in anyway.

Well.. possibly someone installed a shift kit in your trans.

As for modulator.. it doesn't have one.. it uses a throttle cable to control load and down shifts. I think that is the only adjustment but if you mess it up you can kill your trans especially if the cable adjustment is too loose you may have lower line pressure.. this is from what I understand. I'm shure someone else will chime in seeing as I really have more experiance with the 4L60E the 700R4's electronic version.
