Default Electronic Dash Problem

The lights went out on the dash of my 87 Vette. I was still able to see the readings. I tapped the dash and the lights came back on. This happened 3 times so far. Loose connection? Bad bulbs?

I would say more likely the bulbs then a loose connection, but it couls be a loose connection on the wiring between the PC boards in the cluster

The connector between the two boards inside the cluster is a common cause of this problem...either due to a solder joint that has broken loose or a faulty connector terminal.

i'm having the same problem, the dash lights up when i turn the ignition on but after it starts it goes off.

i think i'll just have to buy a lot of beers this weekend and have an intimate weekend with the vette

I have had mine apart many times. THe time that mine went dark (I could hit it and make it light up) the solder joints were broken on the pins that connect the two boards. It is a very simple soldering repair.

So many problems, so little time.
Mid America has a book available for repairs and fixes.
Good Luck
