My Corvette(s):
Default C5 horn problem

Hello to all,
First time here. Hopefully someone can help, on my 00 coupe
the horn will not work from the steering wheel, it works with the alarm and panic button , so I dont think it's the actaull horn or a fuse. I beleive the problem to be in the steering wheel. Before I take it in for service I'd like to try and repair it myself. Any sugestions anyone?

Thanx for any help!

Mark

HI there,
I have had a few where the wiring in the steering column has become worn, due to a number of reasons.
You will have to check out for 12 volts at the actual terminal at the steering wheel.
Two T30 bolts are used to retain the air bag to the steering wheel.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL, BEFORE REMOVING THE AIR BAG.
Allthebest, c4c5

I have had an intermittent problem like that, but they have started working again. When they do work first one will sound and then the other one will chime in as the first is working. Right now I've got it on the lift checking connections and grounds. Nothing looks out of the ordinary so far.

Thanx dad. I believe the problem to be at the steering wheel, since the horn itself works fine with the alarm or panic buton. I'll have to dig into the steering wheel to see what's up. How about the code for the radio? I know on my 96 impala SS the car came with a sticker on the radio with the #. but I dont recall getting this
with the vette when I bought it new.

Thanx

HI there,
Your Theftlock feature on the radio is only active if the LED, located next to your volume button, is flashing with the car off.
If this is NOT flashing, you do not have to worry about disconnecting the battery.

YA HOOO!!!!! Ifixed it, not sure how. took the steering wheel
apart and cleaned the contacts. when I put it back together
"abra cadabra" it worked. There's nothing worse than not having
a horn. It just leaves you fealing helpless when someone starts
coming over on you or starts backing up to you too close in a parking lot. THANX for everyones input.
