Default Questions about the C5 and LS1/LS6

Hi all!

I'm from Norway and are considering putting a LS1 engine in a Opel Omega. This are about the same car as a HSV GTS.

I will use a manual transmission! Has the Corvette from 97-00 with the LS1 engine the transmisson rear mounted? In the Omega this will be front mounted. If it's rear mounted, is it possible to build it with front mounted transmisson, example with the ZR1 transmisson?

How complete do I need the engine to make a engine transplant like this? I look at Ebay that some engines are not as complete as I want them, but what parts must I need to make sure I buy with the engine?

How big exhaust pipes do I need for this engine? Also after the tuning I ask below.

How much hp/nm do I get from this engine for +/- $4000? No turbo or supercharger, only pure power. What parts is best to buy for this kind of money?

Is there any outside differences from LS1 and LS6? I know that the LS1 stands in the HSV (that's the australian version of the european Omega), but maybe the LS6 is not much different so I can just as easy fit this in a Omega? If the LS1 has front mounted transmission I think the LS6 anyway is out of the question.

All help is necessary for me

Default Welcome To The Corvette Action Center adaptec!

I moved this to the General Tech forum because you seek knowledge for installing a Gen III engine in an Omega, and are not really in need of C5-specific advice. Hopefuly some of our gearheads will see this and be able to help you.

As far as I know, the LS1 and LS6 are physically/externally identical - the differences are internal and tuning-related; same block, the LS6 should bolt up to anything that uses the LS1.

I believe the F-bodies have a standard transmission mounted to the LS1 engine as opposed to the rear mount on the C5.

True, but the block is the same.
