My check engine light came on
Here are the codes:

10 pcm p1416 H C
p 1571 H ( I have read this is normal?)

What does this mean?

The P1416H code is "Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2." The circuit description from the service manual (not that I understand it all!) is:

An AIR pump is used on this vehicle in order to lower the tail pipe emissions on start-up. The PCM supplies a ground to the AIR pump relay, which energizes the AIR pump.
The PCM monitors the HO2S voltages to diagnose the AIR system.
During the AIR test, the PCM activates the AIR pump during closed loop operation. When the AIR is activated, the PCM monitors the HO2S voltages and short term fuel trim values for both banks of the engine. If the AIR system is operating properly, the HO2S voltages should go low and the short term fuel trim should go high.
If the PCM determines that the HO2S voltages for both banks did not respond as expected during the tests, DTC P0410 sets. If only one sensor responded, the PCM sets either a DTC P1415 of P1416 to indicate on which bank the AIR system is inoperative.

As for the P1571, that code is "Traction Control Torque Request Circuit".

Actually, it wasn't from a link... That was from my 2000 model year factory service manuals. If you are interested in getting these, you can sometimes find them on eBay, or you can order a new set of manuals from Helm, Inc. at http://www.helminc.com.

Unless you are somewhat mechanically savvy with these cars and have the proper diagnostic tools for the job, I think I'd recommend taking it to the dealer. You can at least get them to diagnose what's wrong and estimate the cost to fix, even if you decide to wait on having the work done. Also, is the Check Engine light staying on constantly, or was it just once? If only once, I'd wait until it "verifies" the condition by doing it again...

Hi there
As FH has stated, the 1571 is normal for the 1997 model year, due to programming sequencing. As long as it is not current you are fine.
As for the 1416, you probably have a check valve that is NOT working, or rusted shut.
You will have to remove the intake manifold to get to it, but its not bad.
The intake gasket is about $53 and the valve is about $25.
