Hi-Perf hood seal.

After my BlackWing install I think I need a new hood seal. Who has made thier own and what did you use?

From what I have seen it might be possible to use house-door type self stick weather strip that you can get at Home Depot.

All you would need to do is cut a length long enough to stretch across the gap where the hood seam is in the front.

Mid America Designs offers a front hood seal that is made for use with aftermarket intakes. The C5 Performance Hood Seal is $15.99 and is made specifically for the Corvette. Double-sided tapes keeps the seal in place. MAD was selling them at Corvettes at Carlisle for $10.

I bought some 3/4" x 1/4" black foam insulation adhesive tape at Home Depot. I think it was $2.37 for 10', in an orange celophane package and says, "...many home and automotive uses." I used two layers stacked on one another...so far so good...

I would think foam wouldn't last too long with prolonged exposure to the elements. The weatherstripping sounds like a pretty good idea. My C5 came with the aftermarket hood seal already in place.

Why not use a length of old garden hose and some contact epoxy! Or maybe a few old t-shirts and some duct-tape! Oh, I know, how about an old cut up fan belt with some bailing wire!
Just go to Mid America and spring for the 15 bucks!

First of all olvetteguy, do not put others' ideas down, we are a community. Secondly, I have installed both the perf. hood seal offered by Mid-America, and simple weather stripping from Pep Boys. The weather stripping was far superior in fit and adhesion. Just springing for the $15 bucks isn't the issue as they both are priced the same. We are talking about what works best. Don't chime in if you don't want to be constructive. Pac-man

i had same question and after veiwing how some fit etc. i decided on ordering the same seal used on sides underhood. it cost i think like $15.67 from my parts dept and i cut it maybe 3" during install.

got it to fit exactly like it does on fenders by using 1/8" thick neoprane blocks layed across bottom which allowed seal to sit at correct height as it does on fenders.

i cut it, stuck it and slid shims out when done maybe 10 minutes total.

hit it with hose and didn't see any water on top of blackwing so i would think it works. seal looks good too no bulges or anything.

I bought the one they sell through MidAmerica. I think it was $15.99. It fits perfect, but the adhesive is not the greatest, if you wash your car alot like I do. I need to reinstall mine with something that is going to hold it there permanently. Any ideas?

Had the exact same problem. Go to Pep Boys and get 3M double sided molding tape, it works great. The weather stripping that they sell fits and sticks better that the hood seal from Mid.

Xcuz me, but I thought my ideas were brilliant! You have to think out of the box and try new things PacMan... A cut down length of old tire held in place by sheet metal nails works equally as well. Try being more constructive with your thinking...
