Caliper Bolt Threadlocker

Hi,

According to the shop manual, when you change the brake pads, you are supposed to replace the caliper mounting bolts.

It appears that the main reason for this is that new bolts come with some sort of threadlocker on them.

Is it really necessary to replace the bolts, or can I just apply loctite or some other threadlocker to the old bolts? I can't imagine fatigue or material creep would be a serious issue with these bolts.

Do you know what the exact type of threadlocker is? It doesn't look like loctite.

Or should I stop trying to be cheap and just pay the $6 ea. for new bolts?

I have replaced my own pads on various cars over the years and have NEVER replaced the bolts. I do not see how undoing the bolts and putting them back is going to cause any problems. Maybe I have been dodging the bullet but I have never had any come loose. I would just put a little brake bolt lubrication grease on the bolts ( thin film ). If you feel you need the lock-tite go ahead for added insurance. SAVE THE WAVE !
