Default "Sys" Error flashing on console

I just had my sound system (delco AM/FM/Tape) replaced in my 95 vette. Now, about every 5 minutes, the place on the console where it digitally displays fuel info, coolant temp, etc, it flashes "sys" for about a minute and then goes away. Anybody know what it could be? Do I need to have something reset? Help!

I can't help you with specifics, someone else will profer what they have experienced, but what I can tell you is that it is a common occurence to have the SYS flash when changing to aftermarket stereos in the later model years of the C4.

On my 96 when i first started having battery probs(having to boost it every morning),
I took it to AutoZone to have the bat checked.

Kid put both leads on the battery and said the bat was fine.

Well, cranked her up to go home, and the SYS flashed a while.
Did that the whole day.

Stopped after it sat a while.

The battery was indeed bad, and needed replacing. No prbs or SYS ever since.

The radio issue must be something all together different - sure someone else on the Forum has experience there

Its a common flaw on the C4. Mine did it, as soon as the aftermarket Stereo went in. I had them put the stock one back in and I took it to another place and they put the aftermarket one back in and it did it again. Then I read that it happens alot with after market stereos in C4's

Somebody here has addressed this issue before and provided the cure. I just can't remember who it was. Hopefully they'll see this before too much longer, or you'll go crazy with the light flashing in your face Soheyl.

The system beleives the radio has a problem. There needs to be a resistor placed on one of more of the factory wires to 'fool' the system into beleiving the factory radio is there and working. Which wire and what resistor is here in the forum I think. If not check with a good local sound shop.

Default the FIX

Put a killer after market stereo in the 96 and had the same problem. After alot of research and the light driving me CRAZY, I found the fix.

Here it is:

If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new stereo, he will need to do the following:

1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 Watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2-pack for 29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car.)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

It works......

Wow. Thanks a lot guys. I'm surprised by how many helpful and supportive members there are here. I'm definitely going to start coming here more often. Thanks again Wamp, I'll give it a try some time this week.

Default SYS error

I am having a problem with my 90 L98 Coupe with SYS code on dash but also sir codes ecm error code and the ccm is upset as well also int. codes for suspension and brakes all of this started after new radio instalation. When in ccm diagnostic mode it says cannot connect to ecm. I think it must be a groung issue or ccm failure. Any input would be appreciated.

the sys will flash if the battery has been disconmnected, and reconnected, for whatever reason.

Default Don't resist the resistors

Do what Wamp says and start enjoying a SYS free life. Can't believe a stereo shop suggested the old system to fix this. I educated an AC Delco repair shop on this situation.

I believe it will work I just think my color code for the wires is wrong. The purple and white wire goes between the face plate and the receiver and both are gone now leaving that wire doing nothing.

Plus now my ccm cannot communicate with my ecm my sir says both front sensors are bad but they check ok. The door buzzer works as it pleases the suspension light comes on and off with no codes stored and the sys in the dash flases all the time.

Shy of tearing the whole car apart to find a wiring problem I am lost. My big concern is the ccm but the test all show it to be opperating.

Glad it is time to put it up for the winter. Was planning on some engine mods but now I am in electrical hell.
