Default Vats or No Vats that is the ?

I have a 1986 corvette with 21K miles on it and it has "almost” stranded me 3 times and I am not sure if it is the Vats system or the after market Alarm system. I carry both keys every time we go for a ride, but last night it didn't matter which key I tried. Mid America has a by pass connector that would eliminate one of the possibilities. Any idea where the Vats system is located? I am also going down to a local Cobra Alarm installer and have him check out the alarm system.

Any other ideas would greatly be appreciated.

If you go look at my second post on the forum, you'll find all you need to know to answer your question and more! I'd post the info up for ya, but I lost all my bookmarks when I crashed my computer's HD a couple mos. ago. And I'm running too short on time to search and paste right now. Thanks to SpanishVette,Vig, and all the others that helprd me through that one

Moonunit, you are the man. There is no way to put a price on all of the great advice that is posted on this site. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful. Mid America has a by pass switch that gives you 3 options. I might go that route; at least it might keep slow down some of the rookie crooks. Arizona is rated highest for stolen vehicles. Thanks again, Tom

I have the Mid America by-pass switch on my 88 and it never has failed to start. If I park in somewhere I'm not sure about, I put the switch in the no start position.

HPG,
I just went to the dealer today and had my key identified and will order the bypass switch tonight. Were did you hide the switch? How were the instructions?
