Default coupe top removal

I've had the top off my 89 coupe numerous times, just the other day I went to take the top off and the one screw on the front passenger side was so tight it won't move, so far I've broken the stock wrench and two torx wrenches as well, anyway I can get the top off without taking that one screw out? I was thinking maybe a drill and a easy out maybe is all I have left as an option, screw is now rounded off on the inside as well so things aren't looking to good right now.

I think that's now your only option!

After the screw is out, check the thread in the top for damage before you try to put a new screw.

Good luck!

Try repositioning the car to see if it will take some pressure off of that bolt. The C4 is extremely flexible, so if the body is in a bind it could be putting a lot of extra pressure on that bolt.

drilled the bolt out and replaced it with the new one, wasn't all that difficult to do, don't know why it jammed in the first place because it was sure easy to turn it out with the vice grips and the threads seem fine, all fine now

Sometimes it just happens I guess. I had a bolt freeze on my anti-sway device for my trailer and when we finally got it apart, I could see that it was galled. No rust, no dirt, just galled itself for some reason, and it was not even used in inclement weather.

I think you should get rid of the 89 and buy a Miata.

I hope you guys are actually friends up there in the Great White North. If one reads that at face value, it could be considered bashing or something.
