Default False 'Low Fuel' Display

I have a 2000 coupe that intermittently displays 'Low Fuel' on the
display. I was parked on a smaill incline while I went into the
house to get something, when I came back out, the fuel guage
had dropped to almost zero. I knew I had between a 1/4 and 1/2
tank of gas. Then a few days later, I was driving home, and the
same thing happened. I was almost home, and the display read
'Low Fuel', when I knew there was almost a 1/2 tank. So, I
parked the car. Let it sit for a minute, then started the car. Same, 'Low Fuel'. So, I when I got into the car this morning,
the fuel guage was back to normal, and no message. Anyone else ever have this problem? I thought perhaps a faulty float
guage in the tank. Any suggestions?

Default RE: False 'Low Fuel" Display

Search the archives. A longstanding problem with a number of 'fixes,' but no generally agreed solution. Latest from GM is reprogramming the computer to adjust the sensitivity of the gauge.

HI there,
The fuel system recalibration is the first course of action to this concern.
Please let us know if you have the condition after that time.

Hi 2kcoupe,
I own a 2003 coupe. Not many bells and whilstles. Just the Z51 suspension and the G92 rear axle.
This is what happened to me:
I asked at the dealer about which gas I slould use and was told "Sunoco" (this is upstate NY). Ok, but there are not many Sunoco stations. I have used Mobil and Hess consistantly in all of my wife and my cars and have had no problems. In fact, I prefer Mobil in my Buick. Well, one day I filled up the Vette with Mobil 93. Acyually it was 2-3 tankfulls. Anyway, I experienced what you just described. The fix, to me, was filling up with Sunoco 94, then staying with Sunoco 93. This is -not- a slam against Mobil. Mobil is the perfered gas for the other cars. For the Vette, however, its Sunoco. Not much scientific data, but just fyi.

Default Erratic Fuel Display

Thank you for the replies to this fuel question. It appears that
the type of gas used has a dramatic effect on the performance,
and especially on the computer that controls the vehicle. I started
out using only Sunoco 94 octane. Then every once in a while, I
would use Exxon 93 octane. I didn't think this minor variation
would have such a dramatic effect. I'm going use only Sunoco 94
and see what happens. When I get my car serviced, I will have
the PCM updated with the Tech Tip from June 03.
