My Corvette(s):
Default Wet Weather Handling

I have been noticing on many post people’s concern over driving their vettes in the rain. I would think that with the superior handling characteristics of the vette would come superior wet weather handling all other factors and common sense being equal. Not having driven my car in a downpour
(4 months of EXSTATIC ownership) as they can be few and far between in So. Cal. I can only say that in my limited experience with this car “It sticks to the road”.
Is it more a concern for the “other” driver out there, is it getting the vette dirty…. is it a claim of “Never Driven In The Rain” or is there something about vettes that I haven’t yet realized.

How your Corvette handles in the rain will mostly depend on the tires that you are running. The stock Goodyear tires do pretty well in the rain. Some forum members may have some other tires to suggest for wet weather driving.

Driving in the rain is different and good tires are a must. I live right on the ocean here in Washington State. It rains here for about 6 months a year. About 90-100 inches a year. My 80 vette was driven daily for about a year, so I can tell you driving in the rain.
Main thing is they are light in the rear end and a little to much much power can break them loose. No Jack Rabbit starts. If it does get loose all you have to do is let off a little and it grab ahold quickly. I kept Cooper Cobra tires M/S rated on it with very good handling. We even used the Coopers of the Patrol cars I was driving.

The Corvette handles well, but can easily get loose just like any other Hi/Poformance car in the rain. Keep good tires on it and enjoy.

Keep the TC (traction control) on.....Last week at the track I was coming out of turn #3 (not over 30mph) and hit the throttle.... Lost control and slammed the front end into a dirt berm... I have new GY non runflats but the Vette is 'light' in the rear end.... Stupid me!!!!!

I have never had a problem in the rain. Keep active handling and traction control on to maximize control. I can push it more in wet conditions since I get rid of the run-craps and switched to Pilot Sports.
