Default 6 Speed Fluid Change

Can anyone tell me what to type of fluid to fill my 6 speed with ?.
I am wondering weather to use Mobil 1 10w30 or GMs gear lube, also what size allen key fits the drain plug ?.

Default Tranny fluid

Tommy L,

I just changed my tranny fluid yesterday. I just looked in my owners manual and it quoted the same fluid that C5d is saying.
I didn't think it would be in the owners manual, but it was.
You learn something new everyday.
Good luck,

P.S. U.E.19 is also correct in saying 17mm is the size.

Does the redline fluid have any advantage over the Mobil one 10w30 ? (both being synthetic). Is gear oil better than the 5w30 as sugested by GM.

I just had mine done recently and went with the GM fluid and a synthetic in the rear end.

I don't know. Start alot of flames here with the oil subject. I use Redline in my bike (99GSXR750) Did wonders there as far as smooth running engine and shifting gears. So I use it in my Vette. Turned out to do the same. I like it. So I guess oil is like everything else. "Pref"

This car is not modified in any way and only has 3,100 miles on it so maybe I should just fill the trans with the GM factory fluid.
