Default 74' Side Marker lights question

Has anyone ever replaced their side markers with the GM replacement ones? I'm having problems with them. They're plastic (of course) and the mounting nuts are self-threading. I get about halfway down the shaft of the mounting dowel, and they end up stripping themselves! Very frustrating! Any suggestions/experiences???

Try a different size nut.It sounds like you might need to go smaller. Also try pushing down on the nut while tightening.Damn that sounds painful
