Default Cali car smog question

I have asked before but to no avail I have recently purchased a california car an 81...I now live in Wiscosin and there are not any smog regulations where I live...I want to take all of the smog junk off of there because I do not need it I know it must take some hp to run since it is belt driven and it takes alot of room in the engine bay....the only problem is I do not know if it will effect the computer or what will happen if I take it off...

Thanks,
John Dykstra

Leave it on, my car has all the smog and still hauls. it cant take that much HP you can spin the air pump by hand. I think it's cool that my car passes smog. Ya know a eco-friendly Hot Rod Vette. Be kind to the earth and keep it on.

Removing the smog equipment may gain you five or so hp. Better off to do a performance tune rather than an emission tune. Have the carb recalbrated for performance and have the distributor recurved for performance.

Then if that is not enough you may want to change out the exhaust and install true dual exhausts.

You may not have smog testing in your state, but it is against federal law to remove the smog equipment.
