Default Exhaust mod ?

I was told the first thing I should do is modify my air and exhaust for better mileage and performance. Could you take a moment to tell me your exhaust/ intake mods and what benefits you get from it?

Thanks!

My 97 has a Breathless Performance Intake, (cuts through the shroud so it's a bottom feeder), and a flow master exhaust.
Dynoed at 324HP.

How much if you don't mind asking, does having those modified cost ? Did you do it yourself or at a shop?

Default Very easy

Its rear wheel HP versus flywheel HP, ever dyno yours? It can be a surprise sometimes.

The mods can run $1,000+ for what he has done, even if you do it yourself. Your gas milage goes down, to much loud pedal cuts into the MPG.

The best part is you can do a little bit at a time. The bad part is you can do a little bit at a time and never quit. How fa$t do you want to go?

I only posted the info so you might have something to compare with others.
1997 C5 M6
The intake and price can be found at http://www.breathlessperformance.com
C5 Vortex Ram Induction Clear Box. (I got the black one)
Flow masters are fairly standard. A good shop can order them for about the same cost as you can find on the net, I had mine done at West Coast mufflers in Concord CA.
I can’t remember the cost. (I’ll look it up and get back to you). Basically it’s the price of the kit and about $100.00 to install.

I installed the intake kit myself, it’s not hard to do if you have basic mechanical skills and tools. 3 or 4 hours included getting it up on/off the jack stands. I have a write up and a few pictures from when I did mine. If you’d like to take a look let me know and I’ll shoot you off a copy.

I had both modifications done at different times. After the Flowmasters, it of course “Felt” quicker but that was probably just the optimistic feeling that came with the new sound. It does sound a lot more like a Corvette.
After the intake, it was quicker. Track times went from 13.4’s to .8’s to 13.0’s - .4’s. Some of this may have been my getting more comfortable with the car, but not all of it.
It was running low 13’s and trapping around 110mph when I finally put it on the Dyno.

the only mod i've done so far is a donaldson blackwing intake and i'm very happy with it. i could feel a slight performance and response increase.

i'll be buying some corsas in the near future and perhaps headers and high flow cats in the distant future.

the blackwing was $200 and i'm expecting to pay $850-$900 for the corsas (tigershark tips).

good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The Blackwing is the best bang for the buck as far as intakes go.
