A/C won't retain memory

Ok, first of all, this used to work. I have the memory package on my 98. When I try to save my settings for the memory, no matter what, the next time I start the car the a/c comes on in recirculation mode. I start the car, turn on to fresh air, and turn off the a/c. It never comes back on by itself or does anything else weird like that. I can save my settings again. Next time I go and turn on the car again, the damn a/c comes on in recirc. mode. I never run in auto mode, nor do I want to. I want it to stay on manual mode, fresh air, no a/c. No matter what I do it won't save the settings like that. I have relearned the fobs to make sure I am using fob 1 and saving the settings there. No luck. Anyone have any clues?

Might be designed to work that way. At least my '04 seems to do the same thing. It starts on recirc and switches to fresh after the cockpit cools down some. I think the idea is that recirc cools faster.

Hi there,
I would ask for codes from the SCM, or seat control module, and the LDCM, left door control module.
This may give us a clue.
Are you using the transmitter for the correct memory setting??????

No codes. I had it working before. So just as a quick fix I disconnected my battery all night. I hooked it back up this morning, set my memory again, relearned my fob, and everything is fine. I think it just loses it's mind every once in a while. The seat memory does funny things sometimes too. My seat never gets moved, but occasionally when inserting the key the seat will move one direction then back to the memory setting. With all the electronics its bound to lose it's marbles occasionally.

The big deal is that it's supposed to remember the settings. It irritates me that GM thinks it knows better when it comes to climate control. I'm about ready to rip it out and put the base system in. You can settle for mediocrity, I won't.

I encountered similar problems in the past and came across the same problems you did. I also disconnected the battery to reset the system and by doing some research I learned that after you pull the power the ac has to do a quick relearn which is why it may be coming on in the recirc mode, perhaps it did not complete the relearn cycle before you shut it off?

In my case that was not the fix. After months of problems I had a GOOD mechanic recheck all the grounds and he found the actual AC head unit was defective by swapping my unit with a known working one. Had it replaced and no memory or communication problems so far.
