Default Chevy Dealers See C6 Corvette!

Chevy Dealers See C6 Corvette!

Posted: Thu Sep 11, 2003 9:23 am

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chevrolet dealers who attended the business meetings in Las Vegas this week had a chance to see the all new C6!

Unfortunately I was not able to attend but my father did.

Here are his observations:

The car was not driven on stage but appeared on a turn table.
The C6 is 6 inches shorter.
The C6 had fixed headlamps with clear lenses. The bulbs were very visible thru the lenses.
The C6 has 4 tail lamps and a redesigned rear facia.
The C6 looks very much like a C5 and has retained it’s “Corvette” look.
No specifications were shared including any powertrain improvements.

This is a post from another person whose dad went to the show. Not me.

The c6 sounds to be another big hit!

That Mag picture is NOT C6. Its sort of the way it looked before changes were made. The general idea is there however.

Well, if it is cheaper than the current Vette... I'd be surprised.

Infact, that would be the biggest suprise ever in terms of a new model being released- at least to me. Usually cars go up in price as result of economic decisions.

I'd like to see low 30s for the price, but doubt it!

BTW.. I don't care for the flat surround of the wheel wells..

I believe the Gallardo has a similiar wheel well surround but overall I like the car.

So I hope to be just as impressed with the C6..especially since its rumored to have 425 hp in its base version and close to 500 hp in the C6 Z06

Thanks Ross, it's good to know that dog is not the C6. The Euro cover is mostly a colored up spy pic with the old Motor Trend front end grafted on. MT was wrong about everything else in their April 03 issue. See the rear end below.

The only thing MT got right about the back end is that it will have 4 tail lights and a license plate

About 39k to start. You know you get to drive one if I have it.

Yah, $39 base, engine and tranny add about $7k. Look for pricing to be about the same as the '04. But, look for more options to drive the total price up. The Nav alone will be a $1500-2000 option that's new. Maybe more wheel / tire options too. Expect the Magnetic Ride Control to be so much better that it will be hard to pass up. XM radio etc.

A review from someone whose seen it first hand.

JBsZ06,

xxxxx said the drawing in your post in right on!

More observations he shared:
The side coves were very square as were the front fenders and rear quarter panels.
The car shown was Red.
The dealers were not allowed to get close to the car or to take photos.
No specifications were shared including any powertrain improvements.

yeah I can see where your coming from.
The drawing is about the closest anyones ever come (ignoring the headlights/lower front fascia). Everything else is pretty much right; the shape of the fenders, the hood, the shuolder line, wheel arches, rocker panels, side body cove, roofline, and marker lights.
I think the roof will probably be body colored, however, and the shape of the roofline looks a bit too high in these drawings.
Also, I don't think the side vent will be complete square and straight like the one we're seeing here. i think the actual; shape will be gently curved and flowing. I am just talking about the vertical portion. the horizontal coves that lead into the vent are straight, but they will lead into a gently curving, sorta backwards-"S" shape, vent.
Those are DEFINATELY the wrong headlights and grille, but I think the overall shape of the front fascia is correct.
When everybody thinks of a single, center-mounted grille, they think of the grille on the tigershark C5 concept. Personally, I think it will be more like the C3's front grille, you know, how it wraps around. I also think that the lines of the front fenders will continue down into the front grille and sorta integrate the front grille into the rest of the nose.
I just saw the new Aston Martin DB9 in this weeks autoweek magazine, and it struck me that it's headlights could be very close to what we could could see on the C6... do you see where I'm getting at.
Overall, most magazines have been wrong by saying the C6 is heavily influenced by the C3. to tell you the truth, I see alot more influence from the C2 corvettes (pointed fenders that flow into the side of the body, tying in the side body cove; rear decklid area; rear window etc.) and the only thing I can think of that resembles my prediction of what the C6's tail looks like would be a mix between a pontiac solstice and a 1970 1/2 Camaro. The overhang looks a lot shorter than people think. also it is a lot higher up, it is not nearly as wide as the C5 and it sharply slopes down at and angle like the C2's; however the decklid does not slope down like the C2. actually the more I think about it, the more it remins me of the ford Gt. yeah, if you can find a picture of it you will understand what I'm talking about.
