Excellent news! I have attended Vettefest the last two years. I'm heading out again this year. I have friends attending with their corvettes from Pensacola, FL and St. Louis, MO. I also have my dad driving his 98 from Pittsburgh, PA. One day I'll have a full-scale corvette to call my own.

That is great news. I plan on attending as well. Driving Bluvet out from New Mexico and can't wait. Hey, this may sound stupid but anyone know of a decent hotel. Tried all the sites and of course I waited too long to make reservations. Best I've found is about 30 miles away in Salem.

Yeah Chris, I initially responded to this yesterday, but then I deleted it because I didn't want to be seen crying in public. I won't be able to make it either. :cry

Try the motels in Mattoon, 25 miles North. We have stayed there the last 3 years. Try by phone, not on the net. Try the Ramada Inn, it is not fancy but they may have a room open.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

As one to not reserve a hotel too far in advance, I called several and was put on cancellation lists. I called these back every other day. Within the week I had two rooms in the same hotel. Persistance pays. The hotels want you to reserve Friday nite and Saturday nite.

Last two years there were announcements on Saturday at MidAmerica of hotels having rooms available for Saturday nite, as people would not stay the second nite.

Best of luck, hope to see many CAC's Corvettes.

Had to look up where it was.

Effingham, IL

Now there's a town with it's own built-in derogatory slang name.
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Hi All!

We live about 20 min from Mid America and know the area well. If there is anyone who is having trouble finding accomodations, let us know and we can call around to some hotels, motels & bed & breakfasts for you.

For the more rugged we have a nice camping area on our small hobby farm with a pond, horseshoes, campfire etc. We would be more than happy to have you camp out here if you would like. Takers will have full access to bath facilities, water, large barn & I can probably run some electricity to the site. You can email us directly at platato@yahoo.com

Lets us know how we can help & STW!

Unfortunately, it won't be a hospitality tent as MidAmerica will not allow that. It's supposedly a very small tent just large enough to publicize the site. I will be selling shirts, static cling decals and other miscellaneous items there. You guys are welcome to stop by and hang out. Would be great to meet all of you!

Funfest is on Sat & Sun but Friday is a set up day for vendors etc. Mid America will be setting up for a week before. Plan to be there early on Sat as it will fill up quick. If you have never been there you are going to be amazed! 7500+ Vettes, free luches, free t-shirts, free pins, door prizes and discounts for owners. You also get tech sessions and the who's who of the Corvette world will be there. I went down to Mid America recently and they are talking about adding a swap meet. Make sure you tell Mike Yeager while your there that you like the idea.

Lets all make sure we make a good showing at the CAC tent!! I look forward to meeting you all! If anyone is interested in camping out let me know, I live 20min away.

STW!

Hey Bluvet,
If your plans have you passing through Parker, Colorado on your way up the festivities, send me an email- I always like to welcome fellow Corvette owners to my neck of the woods.

Thanks for the offer Patrick but it would be a pretty good detour. I'm near the Texas border so I will go through Texas then Oklahoma. Surely do appreciate it though!

Don't forget to wear your CAC shirt.....I bet Rob has some left.

I'll be there Sat. I suggest you come as early as you can. There can be traffic slow downs.

I went last year, it is one cool weekend.

Looking forward to meeting some folks.....

I've always wanted to go but couldn't "SWING IT" because of work.
Not this year...........

I'll be there!!!!!
I just made reservations at the Fairfield Inn, Decatur/ Forsyth, IL.
(1 hour north of Effingham)

I got on priceline and picked up the room for 40.00 a night.
I was suprised there were any rooms left.

Rob, did you try Priceline?

I'm not sure, but over the years, I think I figured out how Priceline works, I've used it a number of times, without problems.

My theory is....

1. Priceline pre-purchases a block of rooms in "most" locations that are under the "corporate umbrella" of major chains such as Hyatt, Marriott etc.

2. The hotels cannot sell those rooms, only Priceline.
This I know for sure, calling directly to a hotel I was told, none were available, but through Priceline I got the room EXACTLY at the same place (cheaper too)

3. The website is completly automated. You type in a location, and pick a price you want to pay. I generally start at $30.00 and work upward untill a price is accepted.

4. The price you pay (again, my theory) is a pre-based price.
Once a customer meets or exceeds that MINIMUM price, which I think is about HALF the standard price for a room for that hotel. The software automatically books the room.
Example: Had I booked through the hotel, the room cost was $77.00, I got it for $40.00.

Good Luck......
and see you there.

If anyone is still looking for a room, you might want to try the motels/hotels in Terre Haute, IN. It's just a tad over an hour east of Effingham on I-70. I live just north of Terre Haute and will driving from there early Saturday morning. There are several motels located on at the I-70/U.S.41 interchange and lots of good food and places to enjoy the "spirits" of your choice;)

See Ya On Saturday!!!
