Well. Its back.....a relist.ebay2419510969..............81 St Louis vin 2 tone paint........looks like dark Claret and Silver......also looks like a body shop creation.
Car is supposed to be a rare.....one of 2 built. Just wondering if its a rarer one of NONE built. IS the car real? Jim

I would ask for a copy of the build sheet and factory invoice. I suppose anything is possible. They could have been playing around with the idea and maybe run a couple through the paint shop before BG productiion started. Who knows?

Looks like a custom job. The pin stripes don't look right.
I emailed the seller for paint & trim codes. Will post if/when I get a reply.
Nice looking car though.
It looks like a very nice 81. In the sales info.. it says it has over 100K miles and fully documented.
The production number doesn't indicate anything unique about it, as matter of fact it is a middle of production car according to the S/N (10,737 more were built at St. Louis, before moving to Bowling Green Plant).
I would want to see the Trim Codes to verify the color and interior. As stated above "anything is possible" my best guess is it is a repaint, either dealer or owner.
I doubt from all my research on the 1981 Corvette that there are Only 2, I would wonder why niether hasn't surfaced before. Mike Antonick's "Black Book" missed it too, if it is for Real ;)
But, Anything is possible... Trim Tag and Original Build Sheet information Please ;)

The seller was nice enough to email the trim/paint codes to me:
C24 --- Oct. 24, 1980
79L -- Maroon
192 -- Charcoal (black) interior
I'm convinced it's a custom job. Looking at one of the photos of the engine compartment, there's some suspicious looking overspray.
Nice car nonetheless.
Those paint codes about say it all. If it were a factory 2 tone the code would be 98/33. Dark Claret/Silver. It appears to be a nicely done paint job, as much as can be seen from the picture(could be awful close up);shrug If it was one of the experimental paint acrylic enamels the body tag would indicate an E98 for the dark claret. Re-paint definately...........
