My Corvette(s):
Black 1996 LT4 Coupe/ 2004 Z06/Z16
Default Anyone ever sand down the clear on the rims & repaint

I've got some kind of stain the seems to be IN the clearcoat. Tried several cleaner waxes, light cut & med cut 3m polish, goof off, metal polish, you name it.

Can I sand down the clearcoat til it's gone & re shoot the paint. What brand clear coat would look right on the rims 96 saw blades.

Thanks.

You cant really sand them down but you can strip and clear them.I suggest stripping them ,polishing them and find a painter to clear them.I did mine .They turned out ok,I was in a hurry .

A powerful paint stripper will take off the clear. the reason why you can't sand them is there are tiny grooves on the surface of the bare metal. if you sand the wheel down, it will look different than the rest of the wheels
