Default Targa Mufflers or Muffler eliminators?

I am getting exhaust for an early father's day present and need some ideas. I want the LT-1 style tips and was wondering if anyone has a comparison between the Mid America Targa mufflers and the eckler's muffler eliminators. I don't want a real loud car but would like a deeper tone. My car is an eighty six l-98 stock with the cats still in place. Thanks for any input Charlie

Have you checked out Magnaflow. I have done a lot of research and I think the Magnaflow exhaust systems are awesome. I plan to buy a pair of the mirror finish stainless steel tip mufflers soon for my 92 LT1. The tips are dual round and the mufflers are a true dual exhaust with exhaust exiting out of each tip. A lot of the other mufflers only look like dual exhaust with exhaust exiting out of only 1 tip. I think that's bogus. Anyway, you should check the website out for yourself just for comparison. I think the complete catback system would be shown for your car. www.magnaflow.com

If you decide to go the eliminator route then just go to your local mufler shop and have them make the pipes for you. It cost me 157.00 at the local Meinke to have mine made and installed. It's not too loud and has a low rumble and growl to it. Then you can pick and add any tips you want and are not limited to the catalog offerings.

Good Luck!!

just my .02 here
I had muffler elims from Corvette Central on my car. At first I loved them but after about a month, as you'll find with alot of people, it got old real quick and they came off the car.
They were just too loud IMO and I didn't care for the gurgling on deceleration.
I paid around $130 for mine and Jeff and I installed them.
If you buy elims make sure they have the necessary mounting brackets already welded to them. The advantage to buying them is you can install them yourself and not have to pay for labor.

My choice would be mufflers. You can cut your stock LT1 tips off and have them welded to whatever mufflers you decide to buy.
You're choices are pretty much unlimited.
I had a set of stainless stell Dynomax Ultra Flow Welded Race Mufflers from Summit in the garage waiting to go on my car when I got the B&B. I paid about $60 ea. for these and planned on using my stock LT1 tips with them. I got the 3" B&B for only $350 more than the mufflers cost me so back went the mufflers.
My advice would be to get around and hear as many different setups you can.

I put eliminators from Corvette Central on my car. I do love the sound, but it is loud compared to the Dyanmax I had before. If you don't think you will like loud, get ready to use a product like Dynamat along with the eliminators or go with mufflers.

I have a 96 LT-1 running a touch under 390hp. I use the MAD muffler eliminators. They caused system to resonate. I extended pipes 3" past rear bumper...Problem solved. Everyone who hears it says it sounds sweet throughout the RPM band. It howles like a b*tch at 120+ and I love it!!

Dynamax has a nice deeper,'not stock' sound. With the windows closed you can hear the sound system. Through the power band they are not as loud as the Flowmasters.
