UPDATE - New C5 - First Wash - Clay Bar
Thanks to all for your posts re: using the clay bar for removing rail dust. I ended up returning the car to the dealer for a thorough detailing. Recall that the car was picked up new 5 days ago. I noted (very nicely) to the service manager that I expected the job to be meticulous.
Bottom line, I picked up the car at the end of the day and it looked much, much better. It's hard to believe that they delivered the car to me originally at a level so much below its potential.
I spoke w/ the detailer, who told me that the rail dust on the car was "severe" and that he and another tech spent approx 15 hours on the car. He said that they used an "acid wash" followed by "claying" the car, followed by buffing it out. I asked him re: the effect of the acid wash, and all he could say was that it is strong stuff. On close inspection, I noticed a few scratches that were fairly visible. The detailer said that I could bring the car back for a fix, or leave it over night. I opted to take it home, as it was getting late. When I got home, on closer inspection under good lighting, I noticed many shallow scratches all over the car. The scratches are only visible under very bright light.
Anyone have any recommendations re: fixing the scratches, other than just ignore it, as it'll get scratched in the normal course of daily driving? Anyone know about the "acid wash" that they used? I'm a little concerned that they could have potentially damaged the clear coat/paint, which might become evident later on.
