Default I don't think I'm going to use any abrassives

I was thinking and by looking at my paint, it does seem to be running slim. I don't know, maybe the previous owner polished and waxed her a lot, but I don't want to continue using abrassives. So I think that I'm not going to clay bar. Just do a thorough washing and then put a polymer protectant on her, like Zaino's ZFX.

Wouldn't you agree? I'm really worried and I don't want to ruin and/or damage the paint job. That's what makes her so special. So I figured this would be the safest way.

Well now I think I'm going Meguiar's and their wax (only a couple of times a year for waxing, I don't think that'll be too bad for the finish. I would rather do that a couple times and year and have the UV protection especially with my decals).

But my paint and coat is in good condition and the guy really took care of it who we bought it from, I don't think a clay bar is necessary. Thoughts? Comments?

I'll just wash her, and then wax her. Then do it at the end of summer, or middle, and then once in the winter. Sound good?

Default I don't have the original paint...

...but that is what I do.

I wax her about 3 times a year and wash her pretty regularly, even in the winter since she is a daily driver.

I responded in your other thread about wax and shampoo.
I use Mother's Carnauba Wax and Meguiar's Gold Class wash and shampoo solution.

I use the meguiars system and Ive found the best way to do it is to use any of their waxes once at the beggining of the summer and maybe once a month(depending on sun exposure)use their quick wax and use their quick detailer to keep it dust free.

TR,

I know you've been going round and round about claybarring the car...but I do think you should start with that before you put any wax or polish on!! Clay barring is not just for "bad" paint or cars that haven't been cared for...I just clayed our 2002!

I'm not thinking about going for S100 wax so I don't have the white residue around the decals. That would be bad. But I do want to get Meguiar's wash. I think I'll be happy with that.

I've used both Meguiar's wax and the Zaino system. As for ease of use, I would say go with the Zaino hands down. It goes on easy, comes off easier, and I have not noticed any buildup around my decals ('78 SA like yours). The Zaino polish lasts a long time, too. Just another option to consider.

Yes, I think I'm going with Meguiar's for the wash, but the S100 sounds good for the wax. Do you use Meguiar's wax you said? Do you have a white residue buildup at the decals? That's what I'm afraid of.

I used to use Meguiar's, but now I use Zaino. With the Meguiar's, I did notice a buildup around the decals. Not true with the Zaino. Good luck!

So do you use ZFX then?

Nope, haven't tried that yet, but I think I will. ZFX is just an additive so you can forego the first step; the Z1. I have used the clay bar, Z1, Z2, and Z5 with good results.

Arggg!!! I think I might go with Zaino now. Especially with your input as you are a '78 SA owner with decal experience and waxing. Thanks!!

No problem. I am not saying Meguiar's produces bad products, but in my experience, Zaino is just much easier in application.

But I don't want to ruin my paint and make it even thinner than it is. I'm tell you, some parts of the hood it almost has a cloudy affect (not easily seen, but if you look close enough...). The paint is to thin on some parts.
