painting

i need to get my carn painted, arew there any questions i should
be asking? not sure what to look for in an outa painter, any comments would surely be appreciated thnx

Ask if they have done "Corvettes" before...if so...ask for the phone numbers of previous...then call and ask.

I agree taking a Vette to a body shop is considered a special thing to them (at least around here)

There are certain percautions involved and special products to be used. Also bodymen use these cars to brag about how good they are.

Now if your shop has done before getting information from other vette owners could prove to be extremly valuble.

What I did is I went straight to the best body shop in the city saw some pictures asked, questions and talked to other Vetters...Turned out Ive got other bodymen admiring my paint job (no kidding and I thought it just looked good)

Ok, heres my best advice when looking for a painter.Beware of your typical collision shop.They live off of insurance companies and dont want to do complete paint jobs.They will do them but they dont like to do big jobs that are time consuming.Try to find a specialty shop like a Corvette only shop or a Restoration shop .These type shops usually charge buy the hour but dont let that scare you.Ask for a ballpark estimate and dont hold them to the dollar.When somebody gives you an estimate they are basically estimating how many hours plus material it will take them to do the job.Usually they underestimate the job to get the work ,then they rush the job to meet or beat their hor estimate.Or they will overestimate the hours and then they will usually beat their estimated hours ,and you will basically be overcharged(paying for hours not actually worked).This is my opinion.I have had to redo or finish many "body shop "projects because they didnt realize it was such a big project or they had to rush it to meet their hourly estimate.
