Default Fuel pump upgrade for modified engines...

We all know that engineering and the bean counters only put in what is absolutely necessary when they design and build a car. My original engine's (the L-98) fuel pump was designed to meet minimum specifications for that particular engine and not much more than that, so that leaves me with the fact that I really should install a higher volume fuel pump in order to prevent leaning the engine out during some of the very hard acceleration runs planned for it.

I am asking for advice in an upgrade for the C4, which of course we all know is an in-tank combination pump/filter/sending unit. Should I stay with an in-tank pump and search for something compatible but with a higher volume displacement, or should I go with a frame-mounted aftermarket unit such as Moroso or something on that line?

Anyone having drag race experience dealt with this subject on a C4?

Hey Ken!

I know that the fuel pump is essentially based on GPM flow. So I guess that would be based on your CI and injector size.

For my new 406 I have wondered about this too.

BTW, how is the new motor coming?

Guys, contact TPIS and ask them for their Bosch in-tank hi performance replacement pump. I've reliably put 360rwhp to the ground with that pump and no pressure loss at max rpm. It has worked very well. Next best thing would to put a high flow external pump in series with the existing setup.

Very cool! Thank you very much for that link; that appears to be the easiest way to go.

Thanks Jeff. I forget, how much horsepower are you making?

well considering I have not dyno'ed the car lately.. guessing that the full race weight is 3450.. I think.. using an online calculator http://www.angelfire.com/fl/procrast...n/quarter.html

and my trap of 110 it states 425 ( which would be at flywheel)

I also have the Walbro GS307 and paid around the same from
www.precisionte.com/
It's $92.00 rated at 255lph @ 70psi. supports over 600hp
If you need more then get the 340 which is $129 is rated 255lph@80psi. supports 750hp

My friend who has a Grand National running low 11's also was using the 307 pump, he just upgraded to the 340. His car dynoed over 400 rwph with the 307 pump in it.
