Default Front License Plate Bracket!

When l purchased my used 96 it had the license plate filler, but in New Jersey l have to have a plate in the front.

l was barely able to get the bare plate to fit. Do they sell a license plate bracket (holder) for the front??

And if they do where can l pick one up.

Thanks

No bracket is used in the front. There should be 4 nylon nuts that fit into the bumper cover and 4 self-tapping screws which you can get at your dealer or any parts store.

The opening is supposed to be large enough to fit standard sized plates. You may wind up having to trim a bit off the top or bottom of the plate with tin snips. There should be at least a hal-inch clearance on the left and right sides.

I had to trim my plate to get it to fit also.

You can get a nice clear cover from most of the catalogs to fill in the space and make the front look smoother. That's what I did.

Kingman,

I didn't have a problem with the plate fitting. My problem is when I took off the front cover & put the front plate on, the paint on the front of the nose (which the cover covered)is worn. It looks crappy. I looked in the aftermarket catalogs and no one sells an acrylic or lexan cover with the same shape as the painted cover. They sell plastic covers for the license plate, but that doesn't help me out. I was at a corvette car show a few weeks ago. There was a 95 there with the front plate mounted. The difference is that the cover was also mounted over the plate. The cover had a rectangular slot cut in it (big enough to read the plate but not too big to ruin the appearance of the painted cover) with a piece of acrylic mounted between the slot. It looked cool. It's exactly what I need to do to solve my problem. It wasn't a cheap looking fix either. I got a ticket for not having my front plate on so I didn't have a choice but to install it.

In VA we are suppose to run the front plate also. I tried to put mine on and it was too wide for the opening. I know I could have trimmed it but thought I would call DMV and see what they said about that. The women told me it was against the law to mutilate the license plate in any way ( in other words I couldn't trim it). I have asked DMV to send me a copy of the law regarding this and if they do I will carry it with me. Then hopefully when the cop pulls me over to ticket me I can show him the letter and the problem and that will resolve the issue ( yeah, right that's going to happen)!! Anyways, I believe we have a catch 22 here in the Commonwealth so I guess I will just play the odds.
