My Corvette(s):
forged rods and crank??
I have a 1976 Corvette motor in my 1955 chevy. I believe that the engine is a L81. I would love some more info on H.P and whether or not it has forged rods and crank.
Thanks: Knobie

Knobie,
the L-82 in 1976 had 210 hp from the factory. i am almost completely possitive that the rods and crank are cast units. Brian

Chevy rods are always forged. The hi-perf rods are magnufluxed and shot-peened. LT1 and L82 cranks are forged.

The L82's have forged rods and crank. The pistons are alum impact extruded. Also has a 4-bolt main block.

How do impact extruded pistons compare to standard piston types (hypereutectic, forged, etc.)?

AFAIK
, impact extruded just another moniker for forged.

Joe,
Here is a great link to info on the different types of pistons and their construction. Check it out.
