Default 240 mph replacement speedo

one of the things i hate about my '81 is driving america's sports car with an 85 mph speedometer in it. i talked with several folks at great length, and looked at some of the ones others had installed. quite a few had the 160 mph version, however i noticed that the print on the face did not match the tach nor did they have the flags. i found a guy who everyone says is great, and he told me that he could put a 240 mph face on my head and recallibrate it. best of all, the cost would be less than $100.00. my new speedometer should be shipped back to me this week, and to say the least i am excited just thinking of being able to sit in the car and have a 240 mph looking back at me. best of all he says on his i even get the flags back. i will let everyone know when it arrives and how it looks.

Craig,

Post some pictures if possible when you get it back. If itlooks as good as you say it should, there may be a whole lot of us L81'ers signing up for that upgrade. Any time I take mine to the drags I have to mdisconnect the speedo. PITA!!

Good luck............... Nut

Yes, pictures of it when you get it back. Also post where/who to send it to, I've had an extra speedo sitting in the garage for a conversion to 140 but 240 would be really cool to see.

81NMvette - It's very simple actually. There is a huge post on here on how its done. We went through this a while back when many of us changed over to 140 mph speedos.

Default picture 240 speedometer

january 2003 issue vette magazine, page 14 has a picture of all of the speedometer heads. and, no mid america does not have any more. the one in the lower right hand corner clearly shows 240-but wait-that was the generals export head. the guy i have been working with is able to print or silk screen the 240 scale on your face not print the inside scale which is the mph scale, and only print the "mph" from the inside scale before recalibrating it. he really sounded knowledgeable when i talked to him on the phone, and another corvette chat highly recommended him. the only other one of these that he ever did was for a guy who still loves his. and the price is righteous too.
