Best theft detterent?
I live in Phoenix, actually close to it but we are the car theft capital of the U.S.
On the radio yesterday I got to hear an actual car thief talk about his favorite vehicle to steal, any guesses as to what it was?
Anyway I wanted some opinions on the best way to protect my Vette, I personally was thinking along the lines of a fuel cut-off switch but what is the best way to do this? I heard if you add extra switches they usually find them. All opinions would be appreciated.

Do they have lo-jack services available in AZ? This seems to work pretty well in the metro areas around the country. Of course, C4 explosive under the driver seat with a remote triggering device would certainly be an alternative!!

Mr. Glock (two to the body and one to the head) works well also.

The C5 is hard to steal. The only way I know is to use a flatbed truck and drag it up onto the flat bed. There may be other ways but I just don't know them. C4C5speciallist might be able to describe other methods.
I have Lowjack and I park it in known and secure areas. Specifically in garages for the most part.

I prefer the method others have chosen but I lean towards Mr. Smith and Wesson.

The problem with Msrs. Colt, Glock and Smith & Wesson...
...is you need to be present to activate your security system.
How about an attack dog?
...well, we're back to the same problem.
Someone needs to return to the vehicle regularly to let the alarm/theft deterent system go to the bathroom outside the vehicle.
Heidi
btw, I like the idea of a cut-off switch. However, I do imagine the switch needs to be creatively hidden to deter a thief from easily locating it.

theft deterrent
Have you looked into the battery that Sears sells. You have to turn it on with a remote or the car won't start ?

An extra visual deterrent might work like a Club or something similar. If a thief has to work too hard he will go to the next target. Maybe that ricer car sitting a few slots down!

Eat lots of beans and let one off just before you leave your car...no thief will try to hotwire a car working in those kind of conditions....

adding switchs, let dogs stay in it, farting regulary in it... if he listens to all of your ideas the vette wouldnt be worth stealing
my idea is to have a tracking device hidden in the seat or someplace someone cant look, then have a little hand held screen that will tell the direction of your vette... not only will you be able to find the vette if its stolen, but if ya have to park at a huge parking lot you can remember where you parked
I have no idea how much a tracking device costs... i just came up with this idea now. for all i know this might cost like 10 grand, but if its cheap this is what im gona do!

ZAP
Hook up some wire to your door handles and then hook the wire up to a large electrical source and then up to a remote. When the system is armed and some robber touches the handles ZAP! The robber is lying on the ground wondering what the heck just happened. I'm not to sure how to make this work without draining a battery dead, but it might be worth a try. Fried robber anyone?

Get a brake club. The steering wheel ones are useless - a theif just cuts the wheel and it's off in < 5 seconds. The ones that lock onto your brake pedal are not easy to remove since the pedal is made of hard metal too. Plus, on the Vette, you won't be able to start the car (just put it on the clutch if you have a stick).
I don't have one on my Vette (I keep it in the garage), but I do have a 73 Bronco that's highly modified for off road (it's worth about $15k). It would be a cinch to hot-wire (even I could do it in 2 minutes). I have no alarm or any kill switch or any other theft deterrent (besides the primer grey paint job, anyway). It sits in my driveway with no top on it and it's never been messed with. No theif is gonna try and steal a vehicle that he can't stop! The ironic part about it is that the Bronco doesn't need the brake on to start the motor - it doesn't even need to be in Park or Neutral (that's one of my mods for off road).
If anyone did try to steal it, I'm sure I'd get a call from my neighbor when they crash the thing thru their garage door!
It would be a cheap $35 teft deterrent. I know it works, a car in my Tempe neighborhood gets broken into every couple of months. No one's ever messed with the Bronco.
Of course, it won't protect your stereo very much.

A nice large Boa Constrictor or Python in drivers seat might work. (won't have to worry about letting them out to go to bathroom.) Better yet a nice Rattel Snake would do even better. I know you have plenty of them in Az. So they would be real cheep to buy.
