antenna help

My antenna on my 95 goes up but does not come down. I got the car this way, and the former owner included the replacment antenna. How difficult is the replacement? Is it rather simple?

Hi Matt:

In what form did the replacement parts come to you? There are some antennas that require the entire mast assembly to be replaced. Usually they come with a long notched nylon cable attached to the mast. If this is what you have it usually only requires that you remove the existing mast and broken cable assembly. To do this you turn on your radio so that the mast is extended in the up position, then pull it out. It should come out fairly easily. If not, you may need to remove the dress nut from the top of the antenna, then try to remove the mast assembly again. If it does come out, you're half way home.

Once you have the assembly out, reinsert the new nylon cable and mast assembly into the antenna motor and have someone turn off your radio or ignition switch. When the motor engages to lower the antenna you need to guide the new mast into the cavity in the motor housing. It should retract all the way. If you had to remove the dress nut, resecure it and you should be in business.

If the antenna mast doesn't go all the way down when you've installed the new one, you might have to remove the antenna unit entirely and disassemble it to get the old broken nylon cable material out of it. Take note of how you took it apart so you can easily put it back together.

I just recently went through this with our Lexus. The antenna unit is very similar to the one in the 93 C4 coupe.

I just replaced the mast on mine, following the instructions. It was a piece of cake. It took me all of 15 minutes and works like new!
