Black 1998 6 speed coupe.
Default just bought a c5!!!

well, after many months of searching and trying to decide which to get (l98,lt1,lt4.ls1), i finally decided to go with the c5. today i bought a black 98 six speed coupe. it's awesome!!! love the car!!!

71shark should be posting some pics soon.

here's my first question. there seems to be a lot of rattle in the top. is this as simple as adjusting the release handles so they clamp down a little tighter? anyone had this problem? any advice would be great.

i'm going back to the garage now to stare at my new toy.

Tom,

Congrats on the wonderful addition to the family! I remember you were debating about the LT1 and then it went to LT4 and then the big bug bit you and you went all out for the C5.

yeah, once i took a close look at the c5 i just had to have it. it's a good thing i stopped at this one...at the rate i was going, i would have ended up with a zo6

thanks again to everyone who helped out with this long process (eric, rob, edmond, and the rest of the cac). it's great to be back in corvette world.

Congratulations on the car!

Occasionally my top rattles also. Sometimes I will remove the top, carefully replace the top, then lock the back clamp first followed by securing the two front handles. If I lock the front handles first before the back one, that seems to be when I get my rattle. Not sure if this will work for you but you might try it.

tonight i solved the problem with the top. there are some torx screws on the front clamps that you can tighten so the roof gets a tighter fit. i tightened them up, and the rattle is gone. now all i hear is the beautiful growl of the vette!!!

now if it'd stop snowing around here i could really have some fun!!!

since i've been c4 guy in the past, i'm not too familiar with what mods are available on the c5 (i've got to call mid-america and get the c5 catalog). one thing i want to do at some point is upgrade the exhaust system. i'm curious to see what people are liking for c5's...borla, corsa etc...

i can't wait to see what's available for c5's...if it's anything like what's out there for c4's, i'll be happy (and broke).

Good job on the purchase Tom.....I can Identify with the going to the garage to look at you car......up here in Alberta right now we are in winter storage mode so me and my Vette are just visiting right now.

Remember with the roof too, you should get some GM Silicone Emulsion 1#10953014.....and give the weatherstripping a rub down....its amazing how much this helps.

Congrats again Tom

Tom,

You really should get a throatier exhaust system. IMHO, the stock C5 exhaust is kind of wimpy.

Please post some pics ASAP!!!

pics will be coming soon. although, right now, it has a white film on it from my ride home from work in bad weather yesterday (i couldn't resist driving it to work...big mistake)...breaks my heart to see it that way. i don't care how cold it is today, i'm washing it when i get home. hopefully, i'll have some pics by the weekend.

i agree about the exhaust note...somthing a little more throaty would be nice.

Tom,

Sorry to be so late on this acknowlegment. Welcome to the world of C5 Vettes. I've owned four Corvettes over the years and the C5 is my favorite from an overall standpoint. I can tell that you are excited about the new toy - and you should be. It will be joy to drive and it will serve you well.

Regards - Remo
