This light refers to the 1 to 4 skip shift on 6 speed cars. You have the same information center in your automatic as the 6 speed cars do. Just a quick explanation. I'm sure someone will chime in with a more detailed answer but that's the nuts and bolts answer.

It is a light used for the 6 speed manual tranny to indicate when you are locked out of 2nd and 3rd under certain conditions. This was the CAGS (computer aided gear select system). It is not used for your automatic.

I have it on my 96 and it drives me nuts! If I catch the light before it goes off, shifting is no problem. If I miss seeing the light and try second It grinds just a little bit. Supposably this saves fuel and shifting when cruizing at low speeds. By the end of the month I will be ordering the CAGS disabler on page 179 of Ecklers.

I got the CAGS eliminator on my LT4. Works perfectly. And it was totally easy to install. The wiring harness where it is installed has an opening around it so it's easy to reach without removing anything, and it's right down at the bottom of the transmission. It's as if the engineers who designed it hated the skip shift and designed it for easy disabling.

I hate that feature... What a stupid idea... I am suppressing it by pushing a little harder on the gas pedal... The price is right, and I do not have to modify anything..

All you gotta do is disconnect the switch by unplugging under the car.

According to the Cor-Vette Specs book on the C4 I have, this "feature" was to force the fuel mileage to be better on these cars, to avoid the "gas-guzzler" tax that the government would impose. Also, it is said that Dave McLellan purposly made it easy to disable and made it known that it was as easy as unplugging the connector at the transmission. My 1990 came that way (someone else had disabled it) and often I do the 1 to 4 on purpose to save fuel, which it does.

u mean on an AUTOMATIC it just is saying that if u shift it manually instead of using drive that u will save fuel.....and thats all.....does nothing else just a reminder light on an AUTOMATIC.

I think, it means nothing on cars with automatics.. Shifting your auto manually will probably use more fuel... The light just lights up as part of the cars power on self test.. But since you do not have a manual trans. it should never light any other time.. It has no meaning unless you have a manual transmission.
