My Corvette(s):
Default 1985 coupe

Just bought 1985 with 39000 miles, not cherry but nice, two previous owners one repaint, 4+3 (OD button does not work)whats the possiblity that its just the switch in the shifter. How do I go about trouble shooting this and can the car be driven as just a 4 spd? Previously had an 87 and replaced the button. When driving the car "D" comes on the dash.

It sounds like your od unit is not working and your switch is fine.I have had alot of problems with my switch too .Usually if the light on the dash comes on the switch has told it to work and it has but the od unit is just not working.Try checking the fluid first.Dont drive it with that light on.It kinda works like a automatic trans.Its trying to work but its slipping.

Welcome to CAC.

Ken here is our resident 4+3 expert so to speak. I am sure he will jump in with some links and info.

You might try doing a search in the C4 area on different types of 4+3 key words.

Congrats on the 85. Seems like we have had a dozen or so new members in the last week driving 85 Vettes. That was my first C4 and I still miss that car.

I am pretty surey ou can just jumper the switch wires in the shifter to make the OD light go on an off. Dont quote me on this.

When mine went out it was just the switch. If you have a fax machine I can fax you the info from the 1985 GM manual on debug and repair. Just email me a fax number
