Default 95 Service Manual -The Real Deal?

I'm in the market for a service manual (just one?) for my 1-yr old (to me) '95 C4. I have a Haynes. Its okay but lacking detail like my wife's Honda Accord Factory manual. Now that is one piece of work!

I have read many references about Helms manuals on this site, both new and on E-Bay. When I go to Helms I can find the manual okay, but I'm not certain what I will be getting in the way of info I can really use. Does one manual cover engine, drivetrain, chassis and body or what? Do I need more than one manual? Are these identical to the manuals I can get through my GM dealer? I'm looking for technical info I can use to troubleshoot anything from Opti to ABS troubleshooting and repair. I'm a backyard mechanic but I have the experience and tools to handle just about anything except the tranny. I could maybe takle a tranny if one of those big burly dudes on Junkyard Wars threw a wrench at me and said, "Here, you go make this thing work, and you've got two hours!"

Any advice out there?
Best wishes and thanks, as always.

Ted

PS - I've had Opti problems too! Just got a new one replaced at the dealer. They said my 20K water pump was fine. Two months later I smell antifreeze. Could find no leaks from hoses, etc. (gulp... not the ___n pump! Sure enough a visual of the weep hole showed old seepage and... dang is that smear of wet on my finger tip sweet-tasting? Sure enough, the stinking pump. I've never had one go out on a GM before 50K. Sure, I know, GM says the direct gear drive (no belt load on the bearing) is supposed to make the thing last 100K right? Wrong. I'm taking a chance. Looks easy to replace. I just purchased a lifetime guaranteed, new one through Autozone for $129. Too much cheaper ($100+)than Delco not to try it. That's what got me thinking about a shop manual.

The dealer would just be getting the books from Helm anyhow. It's cheaper for you to deal with Helm directly.

You want this one: Part #GMP95Y --1995 Corvette Shop Manual

I have no idea what they mean by this statement:
Quote:
Note: For Information on Unit repair (overhaul) , also purchase the corresponding model year GMPT/TURM manual, which contains information on automatic and manual transmissions and transaxles and transfer cases including fluid flow and circuit description.
Funny but I was just there the other day looking for a service manual for my truck and they are out-of-stock on that one. Just my luck!

You should get both the service manual book 1 and book 2. The book 2 covers Drivabilty and Emissions and Electrical Diagnosis. You want the red cover books not the white which in 95 were preliminary manuals. I would suggest to try Ebay. There is a guy selling digital copies what ever that means. I would stay away from these. Ordering from Helms is a sure way of getting the correct manuals. Chuck

Be sure to get the "red" set of books, the white manual, though thick is based on the 94 manual, and many chapters simply say "Refer to 94 manual"

The set of 2 "red" books is about 140.00 list. I did see them for 120 at Carlisle.

I order my manuals directly from Helms, I think I paid $120 and both manuals were included. The link Ken has above is exactly what you are looking for.

Helms also prints owners manuals for the cars as well, and since mine is looking rather crappy, I'm going to order a new manual from them as well at a later date.

You can also check out ebay.
I found mine for $65 and they look like they have hardly been used.
Everyone has them for sale so don't get into a bidding frenzy on the first one you see.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1978553189
This guy has the 2 book set and 2 suppliments for $85 By it Now Price ! !

http://cq-search.ebay.com/search/sea...vice%29+manual
WOW long link !
This will do a search for anything on ebay that fits the following criteria:
corvette (1995,95) (shop,service) manual

Anyone else can just change the year for your car then copy and paste it into ebays search box.
Just don't select the "in titles & descriptions" option or you will get hundreds of matches (it sees the 95 in prices, such as, 9.95 as a match)

Good Luck
