Default Door glass seals install

I just received the outer door glass seals for my 1987 Coupe. Corvette Central's price for both doors was good. Trouble is they came without instructions. They included the rivets so I need to buy a rivet gun. Anybody out there has done this install before? Is it an easy install? Do I have to take off the door panel? What about the glass window? I want to know before I take out my toolbox. My outer seals are in a sorry state and I don't want to ruin the power window motors with water. Any help will be appreciated

Remove the door panel....roll window all the way down....you should be able to access them from there. That is how I replaced the ones on my 85. Good Luck...

Check out this article:Seal Installation , it's pretty good at explaining the details.
I replaced mine last winter, patience is the basic requirement. Be real careful drilling out the old rivets, put a stop on your drill bit or you will for sure drill a hole right through you door! The clips are difficult to remove also, I just carefully separated each clip from the weatherstrip, then I pulled out the weather strip separate from the clips and then removed each clip. I don't think there is any other way to remove the strip other than basicly destroying it in the removal process. When you install the new strips be carefull to get ALL of the clips just started in their slots before you begin to push the entire strip down. Once those clips are in the slots and you find that you didn't get one in it's almost impossible to get the whole thing out to start over. PATIENCE is the main thing here

Just tried the link above and it doesn't seem to work?
Is it me, the site or the link

The link seems to be working now, I did try it earlier and it wasn't working. It was working last night when I originally posted it. Give it a try again. You can find the article in the archives of www.corvettemagazine.com

I think their site was down for a while, maybe they got too many hits from this post!

I replaced mine a couple of months ago. As others have pointed out, remove the door panel and lower the window all the way. I had to drill out the rivets to remove the old seal. I didn't have to drill any new holes. The new seal slips into place and the new rivets hold it there. The new rivets that came with the seal were bigger than the originals and forward rivet (near the side mirror) scraped lightly against the window, but some filing made the problem go away.

good luck,

Steve
