Default Drilled Rotors

Since I am going to rebuild my front end I might as well put on drilled rotors. I was thinking of using the aluminum hat and steel rotors.. Anyone have any problems with this set up and what vendor might you suggest. I have looked at VP. Looked nice but they don't have the drilled only slotted..
Thanks

Hi Don,

I don't know that it really makes a whole lot of difference on a street car as both will allow the gasses to excape from between the disc and pad. Probably end up being a matter of what you think looks the best. The aluminum hat with iron rotor system is to allow the quick replacement of the rotor in competition situations without removing the hub and bearings. I haven't run any but I can't see where there would be any problem with them. If anything they should be an advantage if you ever need to replace worn or warped rotors as you wouldn't have to replace the whole setup. Just make sure to use Anti-Seez on the steel bolts going into the aluminum hat.

Tom

Hello Don,

I bought a set of sloted rotors from a seller off EBay. I haven't put the car on the road yet but they look very good... Payed $129.00 for the front and $129.00 for the read. Total of $258.00 for all four, not bad by the price, Not bad at all!!! I've seen him on EBay severial times keep checking!

Since you're in TX, you don't have to really worry about snow. Rain maybe. If performance is more important than looks, get slotted rotors, not cross-drilled. Cross-drilled are only better in really wet environments when compared to slotted. Otherwise, slotted are better in every way.

(I can explain in greater detail if you'd like...)

I always heard that the drilled rotors were much more prone to crack than the slotted. I think this was the reason Vette Brakes gave me when I called and inquired about the slotted rotors.

Funny this should come up, as today I just checked my cross-drilled rotors. Sure enough, they area already starting to spider from the holes. This was one of the things I was warned about. Now I'll have to check back with the supplier/manufacturer to see what they say. The rotors are KVR cross-drilled, silver-cadmium plated. I don't even think they have 6 months of usage...
I'm not happy...
