Hays Announces Aluminum Flywheel for GM Cleveland, Ohio (DATE 2001) An aluminum flywheel for the GM 5.7L V8 LS-1 engine is now available from Hays. This 15 lb. lightweight flywheel is manufactured from 7075 T-6 forged billet aluminum that will not break up under the stress of high RPM and severe punishment of racing, and features a replaceable steel heat shield friction surface. Neutral (internal) balance and certified under S.F.I. specification 1.1.
