Default Stupid question: Lock on the fender?

Hi C3 guys. I have to tell you all, I love the 70's Corvette Sharks.

I have a few books with lots of pictures, I was wondering what the locking mechanism is on the front driver side fender, just infront of the door? Does that lock the hood down? I could not find anything about that. I am just curious.

John

That lock is actually the factory alarm location on 74+ sharks. Prior to that it was located in the center of the rear just above the CORVETTE lettering.

Later on, 80-82, the alarm system was intergrated into the drivers side door lock.

I got my factory alarm working on the 80. Now if I see my car going down the street with the horn honking I know its been stolen. The 82 on the other hand has a starter lock-out in alarm condition.

Thanks for answering that so quickly. I would never have guessed that. It must be convienent once you close the driver side door, just go up and turn the alam on.

My '78 has the drivers door alarm. I bought the car last week and at 9pm put the car sleep or I thought so...I opened the door to get my glasses and the horn goes off...and won't stop. I figure it's a anti-thief device...but how do I stop it. I disconnected the bat. cable, then read the owners manual. Good thing I got the owners manual:s
