Arrrggg. And I was just getting used to the C5!
--Drew:w
I would not expect anything more than just the coupe the first year. This has been GMs marketing plan for the last to upgrades (C4 & C5). Coupe first than the convertible.

Doesn't really look american anymore does it?
Is that a Nissan badge on the hood?
Are the hood hinges in the back?
What? no flip up headlights?
Huh? The taillights are merging?
How are you gonna wave at that thing?
You won't recognize it as a Vette...
Oh well,
I'm not buying one anyway....
Now there's gonna be even more separation between different generation owners... I have a hard enough time getting the C5 guys to wave. :)

Yikes!
Luckily these are 'computer enhanced', or better, computer drawn pics from someone working with R&T.
I really hope GM will do a MUCH better job, because this stinks!
Corvette stopped being drop dead gorgeous after the C4. Sorry, but(t) the C5 is a loss as well... The C6 doesn't look to become my cup of tea either...
Rumor is Dave Hill held a seminar with German C5 drivers of what they expected the new C6 to be. Smaller was the main thing, more European... YIKES!!! HELP!!! SOMEONE STOP THIS NONSENSE!!!!
A smaller Corvette because some German drivers want to???
Smaller on the outside, but the same or more room on the inside.
The Corvette is an American Sports Car and should stay that way. Not 'Europize' it to increase sales in Europe... Those lousy few hunderd cars sold over here...
Please don't listen, GM. Just build the Vette in the best tradition there is: Based on the previous Vettes!!! And make (keep) it American, from top to bottom!!!
Make it recognizable as a true Corvette (this lacks the C5) and let people move over on the autobahn as one pulls up behind you. My C3 and C4 have that effect :)
Looks very similar to the Porshe Boxer
I am concerened... not very distinctive.
Look OK for a TVR or a europeen car but not american anymore
Say it ain't so , Rob , say it ain't so ! :cry Cliff

Just can't get over that front end, dosen't say Corvette. And is it just me or is it IDENTICAL to the new Z?
A lot of Audi TT thrown in as well.

It looks wayyyy to much like the new Datsun 350Z. Dont worry folks, i seriously doubt(with fingers crossed) that it will turn out like that, I think that those are images some journalist cooked up.
Hmm... I guess I'm all alone out here, but there are some aspects I kinda like, esp. in the roadster. The roadster reminds me a little of the C3 roadsters, but more toned down. I don't like the side louvers -- way too big -- and I don't like the tires -- vette's shouldn't have low profile tires, IMO.
Overall, I think vettes have been getting less distinctive, so I think GM should stick with some classic trade marks -- like the pop-up lights (yes, I know, vettes didn't start out with these, but they've been around for longer than I have, so...).
As for the coupe, I'm reserving further comment until I can see other angles.

I started with a 1984 C4, added a 1999 C5 and now I want an older C3. What is wrong with me.
PS--I sure as shootin don't want that ugly monstrosity of a C6, if that is what they turn out to look like.
--Drew:w
Hi Drew - Tell us what you really think ! Cliff
Well.....in all honesty, I'm not overly fond of it....however, I also wasn't fond of the C5 when I first saw it and it has really grown on me in a BIG way. I love it now.
Let's also keep in mind that these are computer generated depictions based upon tidbits of information that R&T journalists have picked up along the way.
What I'd like to see different from those photographs is a more sharper edged front end. It's too rounded....it's too much like other cars out there already. I'd like the front end to stay more similar to the current C5 with a slight move towards that of a Ferrari. In the cover picture it looks too much like a Toyota. I like the overall "roundedness" of the current C5, but I'd like to see just a slight return to a few more edges as seen in the C4 generation.
As for the non-popup headlight issue.....I'm kind of torn. I've always loved pop-up headlights, but I've seen some very cool non-popup designs. I like what Porshe and Ferrari have done. Since Japan has had a major influence on non-pop up headlight design seen across many of their makes, I'm hoping that the design for the C6 will be unique to the C6 and not something that will remind me of a Mitsubishi or a Toyota.
Oh so this is a collection of hints pieced together from some goof at Motor Trend? Thats cool if thats the prototype I don't have a problem. GM knows fully what Corvette is/was/and is gonna be, I have faith they won't destory our car!
This is far from being the total picture. The rumor is the C6 is truly a beautiful design.. (this coming from the british magazine "CAR" who said they have seen the design..yada..yada..yada..LOL
Who knows whats true or not at this point..but supposedly its really a winner.
Best to wait and see more when it hits the presses..or the net.
I'm with Big Red on this . Chevy knows what we like and won't thrash our car . Cliff
I'm still confident, possibly out of shear ignorance, that the C6 will GROW to be a near-perfect car. This image looks alot like that non-descript thing out of the last issue of Car & Driver. I rather like the things that I hear about the C6 and its development, and I take the artist's renderings with a grain of salt. They really are never right. Usually they draw something so devoid of detail that the car could RESEMBLE anything, then when the real deal comes out, they say, "See we told you so!"
My prediction: After they finally do introduce the car, It will be well-taken by about 40-50%. 3-4 years after that, lots more will like them. Just like the rest of the Corvettes.
Just ramblings of a madman.
Greg
I hope they come out with a higher performance version as well. If history repeats itself, GM will do that ala ZR1, Z06, etc... I just hope they don't wait for Ford to come out with a "Corvette Killer" Mustang and then react and come out with a higher HP C6 model.
Any idea's on the price of C6? Maybe I should start saving my pennies...
Most of the articles discussing the C6 mention the goal of keeping the price under control. They are talking about making the interior better, and I'm not sure what that'll cost or what they'll charge. It should be a little cheaper (and lighter) to use exposed headlights, and it also appears that they have made the manufacturing process of the chassis gradually more streamlined and cost-effective with the C5.
I truly do think that they'll do it right.

I can see where you're coming from. I think that by the time the C6 high performance vehicle rolls around, 450 HP won't be that much to brag about. Just look at the almost annual increases in HP from so many cars. Look at the Corvette, HP increases aren't made unless sales stop meeting expectations. GM keeps waiting for the other manufacturer's to raise the bar, then GM follows.
Once Ford redesigns that Mustang and makes it even more powerful than the 2003 390 HP supercharged Pony car, GM had better watch out. The Mustang has already dealt a fatal blow to the F-bodies, if GM isn't careful, the Corvette could be next.:(

They have two different prototypes at the museum. Neither of them look like these. One is very futuristic, and one less so. The wife likes them. We shall see. I wish I had my camera so I guess I'll have to go back and take some pix for y'all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
that is a good one! Did you know chevy does a ton of research and ignores most of it?
example: the majority of C4 owners (i think 80%) reported to chevy that they liked the digital dash... what does the C5 have? I have digital watches that display more than that tiny blip at the bottom of the C5 dash... why? The car magazines are not fond of digital dashes (especially in the 80's and 90's) so the C5 doesn't have digital to make the magazines happy, and make the reviews look better.... oh yeah, and how many like what they did with the 50th vette?

Enjoy that beautiful 2002 Red Convertible Corvette..because when the time comes that this new C6 hits the market it will be a beautiful addition to the Corvette lineage..
Your car will still be as beautiful as the day you drove it off the lot...no question..yet the evolutionary changes to create the C6 will be a little sexier..and little more sensual..in final product...
Not much different..not the type that totally dates the C5..but enough to get many C5 owners ..along with superior handling, braking, acceleration, interior feel..etc..to make the jump..
Summer of 2004 is a long way off... and then the first year crazy demand..then the second year high performance 450hp version..then the crazy demand again..
I'm thinking summer of 2006 before I make a move to the new car..and only then if the car sells without markups over sticker..
Just two cents..(as truly there is nothing like a red convertible vette! ) My neigbhor a few houses down has one and its stunning right from the factory!

I agree with the last post, whichever Corvette you own, it represents a part of the history so it is never outdated. No other car (other than Porsche etc.) has that, once you own a piece of it, your in the club so to speak. The C6 represents an evolution, one that so far looks like one I'll buy into, 2006 looks good, give them a year to work any of the start up problems out.

how about 3 years. Look at the C4s and C5s. C4s didn't become bug free for 3-4 years and if you look at the 2nd generation C4s (91-96) an argument could be made for 5-7 years to get up to speed, and the ZR1 didn't even appear till 1990--6 years into the production run. C5s had a few problems with the 97s, and in my opinion 99 was the first good year with the HUD and all the extras that you find on the new vettes (except for my crappy wheels--I need the 2000 model chrome ones) and Z06 didn't even appear till 2000. No doubt that the vette keeps gettin better and better, but for me I'm gonna pay this C5 off first and then look at the C6s--that should put me into about 2007!

I see alot of negatives and some refusals to buy it(C6 as pictured).........but it really doesnt matter what we think!
The c5 is just as hideous, but people bought it and people still want it. Everyone just plays into the Corvette mystique just as GM expects and they continue to make cars 4 the image people while real car people buy it 4 the excellent performance. When people finally realise its ugly or marketing people want "new product".... they make some dumb cosmetic package for image people (aniversary or pace car editions) and performance package (Z06) and everyone just compromises and buys the car because its still a great bargain. Same old same old
If anybody had any TASTE or Kahuna's at GM they'd send the entire design team packing...but they wont.......Just "restylise" the ugly design(beauty is not REALLY in the "eye of beholder"....that phrase was perpetuated by idiots who dont have a "discriminating eye"....buts that a point 4 another day) :)
Maybe now is the time to look to the future and the C7 rather that make the same mistakes over and over!

i'm with ya BW! i'm not too fond of the C-5 and now seeing the C-6 i think it looks like a viper crossed over a supra. i don't like it although i know it'll probably be the fastest best handling corvette ever produced but i don't think i'd buy one when i think the C-4 is the best looking out of the whole bunch ;)

Just to add my dime, the C5 is by far the best looking since the late 50's into the late 60's. all the C4 are way to simple looking and have no sex appeal. The C3 open the door to the sleekness that transends time like the early years. You like Vettes because they're an American Icon but the C5 was the only one I ever considered buying outside of the classics but they're not everday drivers and I chose a 63 T-Bird for my Classic! As for the C6 the drop looks way better than the coupe and if they get rid of the flip-ups pick a better design. Change is what makes the world go round, the logo is the C4 knockoff and the C5's look better.
It looks like an Avanti on steroids.....

No thank YOU! NEXT!
I hate to say it...that makes a rustang look good!
And how much are they asking???!!!!!!!
The vert looks SLIGHTLY better... but for that kinda money...used VIPER RT-10 Vert

Well, GM did debut, completely unannounced, a working model, the only one made so far of the redesigned 2004 corvette at the Effingham show in Il this last weekend. Unfortunately I did miss it, but I do know several people that went. They liked it, said it resembled a classic vette. Unfortunately, no camera with them. Talked to them individualy, and they don't know eachother so they did not make this up...

HOW can you give that kind of information without having a picture. Does any one have one, anyone? Do you have any more inforamtion about the Effingham auto show? Is it a chevy, Corvette, or what kind of show. Someone has to have a picture of it. Need more information please?

After a little research, I figured out that Effingham is a Corvette show sponsered by MID America Designs. On their web site they mention nothing about a C6 Corvette prototype at all. I did however find a picture of a C5 that has a classic look like other picutres that I have seen. This picture is of a red Corvette instead of white, maybe this is what they saw. I have included a picture. This is not of the C6 in my mind, just a kit that you can add to your C5 now. I have seen several picutes of this car before, just white.

i will forward this pic to the people that i know that went to the show and see if this is what they saw... The effingham show was a big corvette show that I missed. I have another link going for it, and someone responded they went to the show and has pictures...

Unfortunately, everyone was mistaken down there. They were being told it was the c6 vette, the first one, the only one so far... Another member here recognized it as a stingray III I guess everyone assumed down there and no one mentioned it =(

Although, that Stingray III is a lot sharper than the drawings I've seen in like Motortrend and such. I wouldn't be too surprised to see them go that way... Hell, It is sporty, kinda went viper style, and don't forget lately a lot of concept cars became reality..... Viper, PT Loser, Thunderbird, and the Chevy SLR i believe its called..

Nice Photo, there - that was the Stingray III. It was designed in the 1980's, and is a one-of-a-kind car. That car has been there before and I've seen it at Bloomington Gold too.
Thanks for the photo!

However back on topic, I like the Vette III better than the latest concept. I wouldn't mind seeing more vette concepts put out there. The speed that the SSR went from concept to production is an anomaly for GM. Would be nice if it happened more.
I agree the C6 Coupe design posted by Rob is very disappointing. The angle on the vert gives a much different view, and seems to be a bit more appealing, but not a real impressive car by any means.
I just hope GM keeps working on it. I really doubt Motor Trend has it right, or that either of these pictures is accurate. I think they look too similar to other cars in production and most likely it is dis-information posted by GM to keep everyone guessing and talking.

I am pretty sure motor trend is the one that revealed the C5 early, with a set of drawings that is almost exactly like the C5.... and too much like other cars??? the C5 looks like an RX7 and NSX hybrid/ripoff
