I'm in MA, and you're supposed to have a front plate. I do not! I haven't been stopped or had any problems...yet. Not sure what I'll do if it does become a problem.

"Normally" a missing front plate is not a primary offense, so the police 'usually' don't bother. But, if you get stopped for anything else or catch a police road block, you'll probably get a ticket. Then there are some states and some areas in some states that will stop you for not having the plate. I found that in Texas as several friends were stopped for no front plate and it seems pretty random or area specific.
When I lived in Texas (Galveston area), I never mounted my front plates - they were behind the right front seat where I could reach them and put them on the dash if stopped.
I now live in Oklahoma which does not have a front plate requirement (or vehicle inspection).

I drove my 98 Camaro for 8 years without a front plate and never got a ticket. I did get stopped one time but nothing was said. If I get a ticket I'll just pay it. No way a license plate is going on the front of my new Corvette!

in ny they can and will stop you for it if they want to, most times not, offenses like that are usually the ones you get written for when you get stopped for speeding and 1 of 2 things happens, the cop is just looking to hammer you for going 100 mph over the speed limit and writes every violation he can find..... or instead of given you the moving violation he writes the missing front plate and pretty much explains to you that you are getting a very nice break and pleading guilty to it would be a real good idea!
in ny the front plate has to be mounted to the front of the car, in the front windshield is not acceptable...

Here in NJ you need the 2 plates. If, by chance you don't have a front plate on the car, and you get stopped and ticketed, it's a mandatory court appearance.
Needless to say, the LEO's aren't really looking, but if they stop you for something else, I'm sure the "Failure to Display front plate" ticket will be in your possesion along with the others.
Side note: I purchased (from MidAmerica) a plate holder that has a bracket that utilizes the bolts for the front spoiler and then the license plate bracket clips to that. So your not drilling holes in your front bumper. It's a snap to take it off at shows.

What he said.
Washington and Oregon both require a front plate. 2 Corvettes and a BMW have been with out front plates. I've been living here for 7 years (and I've been pulled over more than once), but I've never been ticketed for not having a front plate.
I know a couple BMW guys up in the Seattle area who have been ticketed for no plates a couple of times though. Guess the police in the Portland area are more laid back.
