Local corvette club takes it to the track in Grand Junction
GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO - Last weekend, the Top of the Rockies Corvette Association (TORCA) drove from the metro area to the Western Slope.
The drive across the state was spectacular. The waters of the White River (which feeds into the Colorado River) were near record levels because of all the snowmelt.
At one stop, the group noticed a yellow C5 convertible pull up. They discovered the couple was from Seattle, Wash. and had just bought the car in Colorado.
They were invited to join the fun – and did – joining the group the next day at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway.
The Speedway is primarily set up for go-karts, but is wide enough for cars and motorcycles.
All the cars competed for a pole position – and the race was on!
The event, while competitive, was a bit more laid back than usual track events, with cars competing against the clock in an autocross type setup.
Ron B. set the course record for a car on the course, with a time of: 1:02.857. In addition to bragging rights, Ron's name will go on a plaque at the Speedway.
Thanks to Mike K. of TORCA for providing details of the weekend.
