Very rare - 1990 R9G Escort World Challenge Corvette Factory racecar including factory offered Escort Challenge series sealed race motor.
This is it- Your chance to own one of the rarest late model Corvettes produced from GM. If it does not sell we will most likely wait for it's 20 year anniversary in 2 years and run it through Barrett Jackson.
This Corvette is a special factory coded #R9G car. Offered only to chosen race teams, they were built and designated for the “Escort World Challenge Series”. One of twenty-three makes this one of the most rare Corvettes ever built by Chevrolet. In addition- this was the only one ordered in Quasar blue, and was never converted to race form with roll cage install.
We purchased this car from Peter Farrell of Mazda Racing in 1991 and it has remained in our showroom ever since. Meticulously maintained this car has only 371 miles. It has extensive documentation including all the GM order activation sheets and the original manufacturer’s certificate of origin. This Corvette was delivered by Wallace Chevrolet, as were most of the R9G coded cars.
The R9G was a no cost option but brought a handling package, 6 spd, convertible wind deflectors, and a ZR1 brake booster. All the R9G cars came with black cloth seats. Historically, this car is anchored between the eleventh and twelfth spot in the lineup of rare Corvettes. All paperwork for this car will be furnished at time of sale.
Upon purchase of an R9G car you became authorized to buy the Corvette race motor. These motors were not installed at the factory because of EPA rules, but could be obtained from GM race shop with receipt of vehicle purchase. The motor is brand new, never fired, still in crate, stored in clean dry heated warehouse. When built, certain bolts on these motors were marked with paint to eliminate the chances of the teams altering or modifying the engines making for an equal playing field on the track. The motor is included with the car in this auction and will NOT be sold seperately.
