Hmmmm. Can you post a link to the photo here and I'll take a look at it, Ryan. It may be larger than avatar photo file size. The limit for custom avatars is 150 by 150 pixels or 43.9 KB (whichever is smaller).

To give you a point of reference, my current avatar dimension is 150 X 89 and the filesize is 43.3kb.
